This location was very surprising for me. The donuts are freshly fried and offer a delicious unique flaky texture that was tremendous, and the location was more welcoming and charming than I originally anticipated.
The decor and the service were better than I anticipated. Inside is surprisingly spacious and reminded me of seating comparable to most coffee shops, though it seems they intentionally did not overcrowd the room with seating as is usually customery at a chain, something I appreciated as a person with social anxiety.
The service was great. Staff was courteous and attentive. I was very impressed with their optimism and attitude. They were apologetic when they realized they had run out of the coldbrew and proposed a few different choices to resolve the issue rather than simply shrug and ask for another order. I really appreciated this extra effort to fill the needs of the customer, and it really did soften the blow that they made the effort to make it right in a way I would be happy with. Kudos to the staff for reflecting well on the company.
The cold brew I had ordered was already out by 9:45, and I settled for a Latte using the same season of coffee. I regretted not getting to try the cold brew as the coffee was delicious. Not overpowering with flavors my coffee tasted among some of the best I have had in some time. The staff handled my presence with excellence despite the very minor setback. Having tasted my coffee I understood why it was sold out prior to my arrival.
I tried a maple bacon donut that was a joy to the senses. Sweet from the maple as to be expected but not overly so with a delicious bacon that brought out the taste of the flaky dough.
I also decided to try the breakfast tacos as well and was able to try two varieties of the 3 available. The chorizo taco might be a little spicy for people used to toned down version regularly available at restaurants, but I found the freshness and seasoning on point as a person who grew up eating authentic versions of it. The bacon taco was amazing. The eggs on both appears shaped by processing but tasted fresh and clearly just shaped in the back.
All the ingredients tasted fresh and really impressive. I enjoyed it immensely and one of the better tasting breakfast options I have found beyond Maple Street Biscuit.
Prices were fair at base market, but for the quality that I recieved I felt I was underpaying by the end.
My only regret is I live so far away, so it will be some time before I return, but I will definitely...
Read moreParlor Doughnuts on Beach makes scrumptious doughnuts. The doughnuts don't just look pretty, they taste REALLY good. No missing flavor elements here. And they are soft not hard. Enuf said.
The elaborate blue and white paint job on the building is what originally caught my attention. I went AROUND the block to go back and try their doughnuts. Glad I did. The doughnuts were fabulous tasting. I don't buy doughnuts every week or even every month. But after tasting Parlor doughnuts for the 1st time, I thought about going back the very next day for more. I didn't because that's just me. But I did think about the doughnuts for weeks.
What impressed me the first time I walked in was that the greeting from the counter person. Repeat, this was impressive.
The doughnuts in the bakery case were somewhat different looking. And I really couldn't see a hole in the doughnuts. I was confused. The hole is really small (I think). Could that mean I got more bang for my doughnut dollar?
I usually only buy coconut flavor doughnuts or popovers no matter where I buy doughnuts. But Parlor has an unusual Lavender-Honey flavor: This is my new favorite doughnut flavor. I also bought raspberry as well as coconut, my all-time flavor.
Their doughnuts DON'T SEEM to taste like they are made from a recipe of multi-syllable chemicals discovered in the Wonder Years. But one never knows, do they? The flavor seems to be basic bread ingredients found in any kitchen. They seem to be sweetened with just enough cane sugar but NOT caked in massive blood sugar spiking amounts.
The doughnuts definitely taste like something I could make with my bread machine if I really put my mind to the task: With extra butter and extra yeast added. But why pull out the bread machine when I can drive to Parlor Doughnuts???
Maybe there is more about the cooking and baking online, I didn't research that. And the kitchen is not exactly open, IMO, like at some other bake shops so customers can see the ingredients mixed and baked or fried. There's no printed menu, it's only online.
The Blue and White color theme continues inside to the indoor dining room making for a soothing serene feeling. The lighting is low, probably necessary to save energy.
There's a drive-thru that I will probably use next time.
Over all I ate good.Parlor Doughnuts deserves your...
Read moreI've visited the St. John's location of Parlor Doughnuts before and loved it, so I was excited to see this new location in Jacksonville Beach after a beach visit was cut short by lousy weather.
The shop was packed when we entered, but the staff kept the line of customers moving while maintaining a friendly and helpful attitude.
My wife and I ordered a coconut cream donut, a sandy beach donut, and a French toast donut, and I grabbed a latte as well. Their layered donuts are crispy, delicate, and delicious, with a pleasant level of sweetness. Even after having them both multiple times, I still really can't tell the difference between the sandy beach and French toast, but suffice to say, they're both delicious. The coconut cream donut was the standout for me, as the coconut cream had just the right amount of coconut flavor in it. The latte was a little on the weak side for me, but was smooth and a nice compliment to our donuts.
One of my donuts was a little on the underdone side, but I'll write that off to the newness of the shop and how busy it was. I'm sure that will be in the past once they have more experience under their belt.
They make donuts all day, so you don't have to worry about them selling out of a flavor, either. Bottom line, give Parlor Doughnuts a try. If you love donuts (which I absolutely do), you won't be...
