So, today was my first "Another Broken Egg Café" experience and it could likely be my last. My wife, 18 mo daughter, and I met an old high school friend of my wife's there for brunch today. Our friend eats there weekly and had nothing but rave reviews (especially highlighting the omelets) and even has a preferred waitress he knows by name.
The start was all rainbows 🌈 and unicorns 🦄. The waitress was really nice, just like he said. She was also great at pointing out the brunch food and drink specials.
Our friend ordered first, (shrimp grits) with coffee. I ordered the Bacquezo omelet with coffee (I told our waitress than my wife and I are eating keto. I asked if we could switch out the carbs for something 'meaty' and she prattled off a few different choices) and a slice of ham. My wife ordered the Floridian omelet add bacon and the side as a sausage patty and a coffee. Our daughter wanted a pancake, so we got her one.
The service time was OK, considering the amount of patrons. The plates were unceremoniously placed on the table and we started to dig in.
Apparently there was no issue with the grits.
My bacon omelet had a large amount of cream cheese but apparently only one slice of bacon inside. It felt like a game of Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego or even Waldo. There was a thick coating of some sauce on the omelet and a scattering of cheese. I only knew cheese was even on the thing by some unmelted remnants on the side of the plate. I slide the sauce to the side, ate my chunk of cream cheese with some folded egg and a slice of bacon stuffed inside. Not impressed.
My wife's Florida omelet contained crab 🦀 and boy could you ever smell and taste that. My wife asked if the kitchen could replace it with the Supreme omelet instead, to which there was no objection from our waitress.
After our friend and I finished our breakfast, my wife was still waiting on her replacement. After about 10 more minutes of waiting my daughter decided it was nap time so I took her out to the car to ride around while she dozed off.
After 45 minutes of driving around my wife called and said she was ready to go, so I picked her up.
This is when I found out the remainder of the story...remember we are eating with a friend and there are social constructs to follow (especially at a place your friend visits often).
We ordered 3 omelets, 3 coffee's, asked for two subs (a slice of ham and a sausage patty instead of the carbs), one add-on of bacon (which only showed up on the fishy Floridian omelet but not on the Supreme), and a pancake.
This cost an outrageous $80 plus a tip. Why on God's green Earth am paying that much for what we got? There was no alcohol. It appears that EVERYTHING was a upcharge and included things like $11.97 for three house coffees and $4.99 for a single pancake.
I am highly disappointed.
UPDATE: What a B.S. response from the owner. It wasn’t the fact it was $80 that was the problem and the fact they can't see that is disappointing. The issue was that we were not only nickel-and-dimed to death it was that the server was mum about it. Not a single word about all of the upcharges. I am not a mind reader and no one should be expected to be. This was a $45/$50 meal with the extra thrown in there under false pretenses. Instead of owning the mistake, they...

Ambiance and Service: The ambiance at Another Broken Egg Cafe is both cozy and inviting. The decor strikes a perfect balance between modern chic and comfortable charm, making it an ideal spot for both casual brunches and special occasions. We were promptly seated, and our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and incredibly friendly throughout our visit. The staff’s attentiveness and eagerness to ensure a pleasant dining experience truly stood out.
The Food: We started our meal with a cup of their freshly brewed coffee, which was robust and aromatic, providing a perfect start to our brunch. The menu offers a delightful array of breakfast and brunch options, and we were eager to sample some of their signature dishes.
Smoked Salmon Benedict: The smoked salmon Benedict was a culinary masterpiece. The perfectly poached eggs, draped in a rich and velvety hollandaise sauce, sat atop a generous portion of delicately smoked salmon. The combination of flavors was divine, with the smokiness of the salmon complementing the creamy hollandaise and the slight tang of the capers adding a delightful zing. The dish was beautifully presented and tasted even better than it looked.
Apple Fritter French Toast: Next, we indulged in the apple fritter French toast, which was nothing short of indulgent perfection. Thick slices of French toast, encrusted with a sweet and crispy apple fritter coating, were generously topped with warm cinnamon apples and a drizzle of rich caramel sauce. Each bite was a heavenly blend of textures and flavors, with the softness of the French toast contrasting beautifully with the crispness of the apple fritter exterior. This dish alone is worth the visit!
Omelets: We also tried a couple of their omelets, which were equally impressive. The omelets were fluffy and packed with fresh, flavorful ingredients. Whether you prefer a classic ham and cheese or something more adventurous like their lobster and brie omelet, you won’t be disappointed. Each omelet was accompanied by a side of crispy potatoes, adding a satisfying crunch to the meal.
Overall Experience: Our experience at Another Broken Egg Cafe was truly exceptional. The combination of delicious food, outstanding service, and a welcoming atmosphere made for an unforgettable brunch. The attention to detail in both the preparation and presentation of the dishes was evident, and it’s clear that the team at Another Broken Egg Cafe takes great pride in what they do.
Whether you’re a local looking for a new favorite brunch spot or a visitor seeking a memorable dining experience in Jacksonville, Another Broken Egg Cafe is a must-visit. We left feeling completely satisfied and eager to return. Highly...
Read moreFirst visit today. I ordered Pound cake French toast. I was really disappointed. 4 slices of French-toast style pound cake (ea slice approx 2x3.5in, and about 1/2in thick- small and thin). It was served with fresh strawberries and 4 tiny Donna of whipped cream. My husband ordered cinnamon roll French toast which was much larger (but only about $1 more than mine). His was served with blueberries and strawberries. I liked his better than mine. Both French toast entrees include 2 any style eggs and your choice of bacon/sausage/other types of meat. I got scrambled eggs- there was a small hair on my egg plate- but the part that turned me off was that they had a soured taste to them. Either the eggs were bad, they prepare a batch of egg mix (milk/eggs) and perhaps it sat out too long and/or the milk was bad prior or spoiled whilst sitting. The bacon also had a funky taste. I did not want to complain so I said noting. Our friends were with us. She order lemon-blue berry goat cheese pancakes (LBGP) and he ordered an omelette. I didn’t hear any complaints about the omelette, however, I was a bit thrown by the LBGP. The description makes it sound like the pancakes will have blue berries in them, but no- they just throw blueberries and a small bit of goat cheese on top. Simply put, there wasn't enough goat cheese to eat with 2-3 pancakes to feel like you are eating what you ordered from start to finish. Needless to say, she was also disappointed with her selection. The LBGP could have been really great if they had cooked the blueberries into the pancakes and layered glaze/sauce and Goat cheese (or a goat cheese mixture between each pancake. 3/4 ito the meal, the waitress brought out 4 beignets for us to try since it was our first visit. She said she would have bought them earlier but didn’t establish this was our first visit until after we got our food (I said something about how thin the poundcakes were.) I’ll be honest, the beignets were hot! BUT took on the flavor of the grease they were fried in (which was not good) and we all though the same thing- it reminded us of a a mediocre hush puppy. Crispy outside but dough was too dense/wet in the middle. Note for the restaurant * It was served with marmalade but would have been better with a chocolate sauce. Service was average (3 stars). Food was below average (2 stars). Atmosphere was also average (3 stars). Total rating is really 2.6 stars but since a plain cup of coffee is $4.99, which cost more than my husbands soda (I think was $3.79), I don’t feel they deserve a whole 3 stars. $5 for plain coffee is highway robbery when you consider that’s about 33% of the cost of my entree. I can’t foresee us returning...
