Had dinner here last night - our 1st time to the Jefferson City store. Previously, we've been to the Osage Beach store many times, since they opened it. Moving to Jeff, we were happy to see Pappos come to town. It was not the same experience.
1st and foremost - the food. EXCELLENT! Their house salad is exemplary of how salads should be done. No iceberg or Romaine to be found here. Very tasty and almost a meal in itself. The Meat Lovers pizza was very good - as good as any Pappos does. Great ingredients, great flavor, great hand-tossed crust.
Beverage service was okay/good - their Savignon Blanc kept my wife happy, and I enjoyed Pappo's own Monk's Communion Belgium Dark. I did have to ask for a glass of water a couple of times, but that's another (small) issue.
Service - have to make allowances here. This location has only been open about a month, so one must allow for "breaking in" time. Our server was pleasant and more or less attentive, but was clearly green in terms of knowing the menu or the beers. As a HUGE part of Pappo's business, knowing those two things would be paramount, in my view - but again, the place and the people are just getting their feet under them.
The facility - here is where I have to go 1 star. It's a warehouse. Well, it's not, but it sure feels like a warehouse. Or maybe some kind of mess hall. It has zero personality, zero ambience and no glad-you're-here vibes. Felt very "eat and get out" to us. So much that my wife said "this is a take out place only", for us going forward. I can't argue the point.
We've only been to the Lake store before, and it has such a warm and welcoming vibe, we were seriously take aback by this store's vibe. Noisy. It's all large tables, booths and settees - built for busloads of people, large family/parties etc. As a party of two, being seated at a table for 8 - not comfortable.
So bottom line is, we'll be back - for take out. It is A W E S O M E pizza. But the rest of the...
Read morePaPPo’s Pizzeria on Missouri Blvd in Jefferson City has plenty of parking and a great contemporary industrial vibe inside. We were looking for pizza options and decided to give them a try on a Tuesday afternoon for an early dinner based on their Google reviews.
This place is not a typical pizzeria and offers a variety of unique pizzas (Sausage & Sauerkraut Pizza???). We ordered the more traditional 14” Pappo’s Deluxe Thin and Crispy Pizza and decided to try one of their other creations and ordered the 8” Steakhouse Hand-Tossed Pizza. The deluxe pizza was good. The crust was thin, and it was loaded with toppings. It looked so good that we started eating it right away before I realized that I didn’t take a photo of the entire pizza! My wife thought that it needed more sauce and that the amount of toppings were overwhelming on the thin crust. The other pizza that was brought out was not the Steakhouse pizza that we ordered. It wasn’t even close. When we asked the server about it, she agreed that it was the wrong pizza and told us that they would make us the one we ordered. They did allow us to keep the mistake pizza, but it must have been someone else’s special order because we could not figure out what it was from the menu. Overall, I would say that both smaller pizzas were okay. The crust, however, was very good.
There are a lot of pizza options in the area, but if you are in the mood for a pizza with unique topping combinations, this is definitely the place to come. We did think that the pricing was on the higher end...
Read moreFirst experience at Pappo's, and I'll definitely return for a future visit. We had a large party, with several small children after a big birthday party, and were greeted by staff on entry, and seated in short order. Menus were already on the tables, and the crew rocked. I should've grabbed pics of the menu, but with all the chaos, figured I'd save it for later.
I needed water, a lot of it. Others had water and sodas, and beer, and possibly other options, is available. The restaurant was spotlessly clean, staff was attentive to ordering, drink refills, and other needs, as well. The restrooms were top notch, as well, available with dual stalls and a standing relief station in the men's room.
They are Disabled/Wheelchair accessible, with plenty of parking. There are TVs all around the upper perimeter of the dining area, with lots of neon beer signs. It's a fun atmosphere!
I kept it simple, an 8" sausage pizza filled the bill. I chose the St. Louis thin crust, though hand tossed and Cauliflower crust is available for the Keto crowd. It was hot, and good. They have 11" and 14" pizzas available, as well. There are pastas, appetizers, breads, salads, and toppings galore.
It was a good experience, and one I plan...
