Being new to the area and from Houston Texas, good food was hard to come by. I was referred to Dukes for some good food and oh my it didn't disappoint. After my first visit, I returned a few more times and the last time was with my BF who had never been here before. I ordered my usual, chicken strips with ranch (very important) and fries, this time adding cheese to them. I ordered my BF a nice burger and fries and while I waited I ordered a chardonnay. After a few moments, I retrieved our food and we left. We arrive home and I am so excited for him to try his food. Upon opening the bag, I noticed there are some things missing. My BF is missing his fries, I have no ranch and for some reason they put cheese and bacon on mine, I do not eat bacon I'm actually allergic. I call the restaurant and a manager tells me "I can give you a gift card for the missing fries and the ranch a total of $5.00." The restaurant was about to close soon so I felt rushed, I tried to explain to her how are we supposed to enjoy our meal with missing items and my fries having bacon on them that I did not ask for? All she kept saying was this is all I can do for you, I said but we literally can't enjoy our meal and the only thing you can do is give me $5.00 for the missing fries? She said "yes that's all I can do." I said "so you're telling me, we have to just deal with this mistake and wait until I come in, get the card, order the food again in hopes that it's right, so basically buy this incorrect meal all over again? She said "I'm sorry but yes that's what you will have to do, ma'am we are closing. I have not been back since and I was a becoming a regular. I spent almost $50.00 for two meals and this was all she could do lol. Idk if it were because I am of the non white community or what but I will not return. In the pic you will see one order of fries with cheese and bacon, chicken strips no ranch. The manager could have suggested us come back tomorrow and bring the meal back for proof or have the kitchen remake it and I could have come back that night and bring the incorrect meal. I do understand she was probably tired but even Chick fi la will...
Read moreSo I heard a lot of about this place. I also really liked sweet smoked. So the first thing that’s very awkward about this is the ordering and service. You can’t really pick where you want to sit. I was meeting someone and they don’t want you to sit down first. They have a couple spots outside and the rest inside but as I waited all the outside filled up. There are signs all around saying down sit down first. This was a poor way to start. It was quite busy as well so there wasn’t many tables open. They completely gutted the place from when it was Alexandros. So it’s definitely more fast food than what I would have liked. It felt like I was eating at a Burger King. I mean we have plenty of fast food here in town. I had a date and it would have been nice to sit down grab a drink and have an order placed. Not sure why they went with the counter option. Also no bar area to sit at so double negative. They had 4 people working and basically could have just had 4 servers and food runners working tables. The food running is chaotic at best. They walk around yelling your number bringing your food inside and out trying to find you. It just seems very disorganized and inefficient. The dinner experience was really poor and it’s not a great place to go in a date. It feels cheep but it’s not cheep in price.
So that brings me to the food. I ordered a cheeseburger with bacon and fries. Simple nothing crazy. It was okay at best. The burger was over cooked. The bacon had a piece of hard cartilage that made my tooth hurt. The fries were cold and seemed like they had been sitting for a while in a basket or under a heat lamp. It didn’t seem like it took long for us to get our food so that means they are preparing food in advance and sitting it under lamps on a prep table.
Overall they took a fine dining experience and striped it down to fast food. It wasn’t even as good as a five guys. They had limited options for toppings. I would have preferred Five Guys to be honest. Same vibe and ordering but more options like grilled onions and mushrooms and better fresh made fries. I will try them again when they are not so busy to see if...
Read moreOMG DELICIOUS!!! Was in Linn, MO for an event at the Technical College and wanted a place to grab lunch on our way home to KC MO. Googled popped up Duke’s on the top of the list. After checking the pictures out, we decided to go and OMG was it the BEST decision of the day, hell of the week!!! Nice outside eating area and it was a beautiful day but we ate indoors anyways. Nice simple yet comfy and cool vibe with a mix of booths and tables. We grabbed our seat first and studied the menu as first timers but regulars knew to order at the counter first then sit. A line was forming so I went and ordered one Hangover smash burger with fries and one Asian Chicken sandwich with fries. The portions were so good that I ate off both my daughter and mothers meal getting to taste both beautifully crafted dishes that were presented to us. The egg on the smash burger was cooked perfectly that at first bite the yoke coated the juicy burger with the perfect richness added with the smoky bacon, I couldn’t help but take a second bite immediately!! I didn’t think it could get any better but then I tasted the Asian chicken sandwich and mind blown!!! The batter was light and crispy, the chicken was juicy, and the yum yum sauce just oozed all over the Asian slaw making the whole sandwich a rich finger licking good moment but the soft Hawaiian bun took it to the next level!! I immediately wanted to order seconds to take back home to Kansas City for dinner! I am going to find some way to convince the owners to open a location near me! I haven’t had a meal that good in a long time. So worth the stop!! Last photo is a pile of napkins because you know it’s a good meal when you leave a plate full of used napkins and...
