After reading several positive reviews of Lutnia's, I was excited to make the Polish restaurant my first formal dinner in Chicago... however, after driving for about half an hour and paying to park on the street I was disappointed to find Lutnia's closed. It was 8:30 on a Friday when I arrived and according to both the websites and the door of the restaurant their hours stated that they were open until 10pm. When my boyfriend and I entered we were promptly told that the kitchen was closed and when I attempted to inquire further about the restaurant's hours, the bartender repeated "the kitchen is closed." No apology, no explanation... nothing. My advice... call ahead and make sure the restaurant is open for business or better yet, skip it. I'm seriously questioning the TIME magazine article that included Lutnia's as one of Chicago's best...
Read moreLove this restaurant! I usually don't care for polish food very much, but my opinion was certainly changed after giving Lutnia a try. My friends and I came here after my mother had raved about it to me - and for good reason. We started off with a couple of appetizers since it was a pretty large group, so I was able to try a little bit of everything. My top three had to be Stuffed Mushrooms w/ scallops and Escargot, the Crispy Chicken Shashlik, and the classic potato pancakes. Read moreWe stumbled upon the place by chance. And I'm glad we did. The restaurant is hidden slightly among tons of other billboards that are overdo for an update, but the interior offers quite a jump in social standing. The food was great (duck flambe was what we got) good coffee but it was not included on the menu (along with non alcoholic drinks which would have been handy ) All in all its a lovely place for anyone craving more than cheap greasy atmosphere of fast food chains.
