Disrespectful experience period. I have been a customer of Krispy Pizza ever since it opened, despite the pizza not being actually crispy, as David Portnoy from Barstool mentioned in his famous pizza review. The food is ok.
But this will be my last time ordering from here. From my initial order, my *special request of 1/4 topping + 1/4 topping, was met with no, we can't do that. Though seeming illogical, since they have all the ingredients. They got flustered on how to enter it on the system. After explaining to them it's simply putting together these topping in certain amounts, they eventually agreed to it. I thanked them for my order. Then the lecture came, with a combative tone and rapid-fire speech pattern, as the cashier said "You can't do this during busy times, if we get busy this slows thing down" Which I said, OK. Though, this was clearly not a busy time. She was annoyed, not happy to ring up the order, huffing and puffing, shaking her head. That of course, felt most welcoming, as a customer. This made we want to be a loyal customer, even more. I can't wait to come back. My sarcasm, in this case is warranted.
Brushing that off. Let's just get our pizza and leave.
When the total of the price did not add up, I questioned it. She was annoyed instantly. She then mentioned, tax. Yes of course, though tax is not $3 + on a $24.50 bill, that would be 12%+ tax. I told her it still doesn't add up, (tax is only 6.625% in NJ). There is a mistake. She was further annoyed that I further questioned it. Then she finally said, "I charged you extra for the special order." And the lecture came again with the same combative tone and rapid-fire speech pattern, that " You can't order like this during busy times, etc " #1. it's not a busy time. She felt the need to repeat her lecture, forewarning of some unknown time in the future. #2 Wow, getting a lectured as customer again, is so much more fun a 2nd time around. What a great experience, I can't wait to come back. Since this the only pizza place in town. #3 that's the discrepancy, if she told me up front, I would be able to choose to agree to it or not. It's the principle of it all. So, I told her next time just tell me the extra charge up front, that's the right thing to do.
Frustrated and unable to take criticism, she YELLED at me and said, "Do you want it or not?" That was extremely rude and disrespectful! I did not appreciate that! I told her she was not being nice. Plain and simple. Deflecting, she then said, "what do you want, they are making your pizza now". So, I should be happy getting yelled at, since they are making my pizza now? Wow, giving KP my business is now doing me a favor? How backwards & twisted is that?
Since they were already making the pizza, I paid for it and left when it was done. Whilst during the pizza making process, she was the clearly taking *ish about me & laughing amongst some of the staff in Spanish, assuming I don't know Spanish. Even more disrespectful.
If a customer has a legitimate question on what he/she is being charged, it's disrespectful to give an attitude when questioned.
I read a number of bad reviews for KP, before writing this. The pattern seems the same. Bad/disrespectful customer service from some (not all) of the staff. From the collection of all the times I visited KP, I can say the vibe from some (not all) of the staff I spoke with, was apathetic, unfriendly, not smiling and some have the arrogance or disregard to talk to customers in a disrespectful manner & tone, period. Never again!
If you are the owners reading this, you are building a brand and you question why sales are not as expected. Maybe consider some (not all) of your front staff was not trained properly, or simply she chooses to talk to customers however they wish, without consequence. Or she doesn't know or care to treat people properly, with respect. What a shame. You don't deserve my business will not get my business again. There a plenty of other pizza businesses in JC competing for...
Read moreI had a disappointing experience here and won’t be returning. I stopped by to place a to-go order with my small 5-pound puppy in my arms. He was quiet and well-behaved. There were five staff members behind the counter, all chatting, and it took a few minutes before anyone acknowledged me—despite me standing right at the front.
After they took my order and place the pizza in the oven, one of the staff members very sternly told me to “stand back” and pointed at the pizza in the display case, saying something about the dog’s hair—implying it might somehow go through the glass and land on the food. The tone was unnecessarily rude and condescending. He must’ve seen how taken aback I was because he followed up by saying there’s a sign on the door that says no dogs allowed. Both doors were wide open since it was a nice day, and I genuinely didn’t see any sign.
I calmly told him I’d leave, and I did—likely for good. I live and work in the area, and my workplace orders delivery from here but I’ll make sure we choose a different place going forward. I ended up walking down the street to Tino’s Artisan Pizza Co, where they were much more welcoming, dog-friendly, and even have a separate outdoor takeout area.
Honestly, how are you not dog-friendly in a neighborhood like Downtown Jersey City? So many local spots understand the community and welcome pets—especially when the dog is quiet and well behaved. With so many great options nearby, there’s no reason to support a place that treats...
Read moreI was taken to this amazing pizzeria by one of my co-workers, a fellow pizza enthusiast, after working on green infrastructure construction in Arlington Park, Jersey City. A little background: Krispy Pizza won the "Battle of the Boroughs" at the New York Pizza Expo back in 2005. Since then, they've opened several locations across NYC and New Jersey. Just as the name suggests, this slices were among the crispiest I've ever had the pleasure of tasting. The location is along the waterfront next to a large high-rise hotel in downtown Jersey City. The restaurant is on the smaller side, but has room to sit inside to eat (though I'd recommend eating along the waterfront if the weather is nice). There is a beautiful mural that serves as wallpaper and the employees were very friendly. The pizza crust and bottom was deliciously crispy and not burned in the slightest. The sauce was very fresh and full of flavor. The cheese was the perfect level of crispy, to the point where it was turning that crisp brown you get when it's almost burnt from high heat but not quite there. The cheese and the sauce did not slide off the slice as it was bitten into and the basil leaves really added to the flavor profile. I'm very excited to try their Old Bridge location as it is much closer to Rutgers University where I work and attend school. I cannot wait to take my girlfriend to try out Krispy Pizza's...
