If you’re looking for a truly Texan experience with all the hearty, well-seasoned goodness you could ask for, this is the place to go. I’ve been a regular at Lazy Dog just across the street—let’s face it, we’re all creatures of habit—but I decided to shake things up and give this spot a try. And boy, was I pleasantly surprised! It felt like stumbling upon a hidden treasure, the kind that makes you wonder, “Why didn’t I know about this sooner?”
Let’s talk about the food, because that’s why we’re here, right? The baked potatoes were out of this world—crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and seasoned to perfection. Seriously, these potatoes aren’t just a side dish; they’re a star all on their own. And the brisket? Well, it was tender, juicy, and had that smoky flavor that only real Texas BBQ can deliver. You know that moment when you take a bite, pause, and just have to let out a satisfied “mmm”? Yeah, that was me, probably embarrassing myself, but who cares when the food is this good?
Now, let’s not skip the dessert. Normally, I’m one of those people who “just looks” at the dessert menu, fully intending to resist. But here? Resistance was futile. The desserts were practically waving at me from the checkout area, already beautifully prepared and ready to go. It was like they knew I didn’t stand a chance. And honestly, I’m not even mad about it.
Oh, and if you need a last-minute gift—or just want to treat yourself—this place has you covered with their cute little gift section. I almost left with a bag of goodies I didn’t plan to buy, but who can resist a little retail therapy after a great meal?
Last but definitely not least, the staff was incredibly sweet. It felt like being welcomed into a friend’s home where they’re genuinely happy to see you and make sure you leave with a full stomach and a smile on your face. Friendly, attentive, and just all-around delightful, they really added to the experience.
So, if you find yourself near this spot, do yourself a favor and check it out. You might be coming for the baked potatoes, but you’ll leave with a new favorite spot—and probably a little extra dessert in...
Read moreI want to start my review by saying CUSTOMER SERVICE is EVERYTHING: With that being said I came with my fiancé and my daughter (2yo) tonight around 9:20ish (you all closed at 10) when we came in we was greeted by the cooks and both was very nice served us and went about their business, however when it was time to check out the cashier over charged my fiancé for his meal. (However I didn't catch it until after sitting down) Once we sat down and started to eat I realized this wasn't my favorite places to eat, I felt the food was bland to say the least and the brisket was very dry. It also didn't help that the BBQ sauce wasn't so great. Mean while during our meal the waiter who was cleaning up the other areas became really aggravated she watched out every move and went to check her phone and watch every few minutes to see the time. Every time she came over she was ask if we was finished or needed something to else to drink before they turn the drink off (we hadn't even touched our drinks) it got to the point where I became uncomfortable and just stopped eating. I couldn't even finish my meal because she was hovering over us. As my fiancé and daughter was eating, I notice another family come in (9:40) the waiter began to mumble to herself and the began to direct them to a different table then where they was headed to sit. I then watched her go over to the cashier and another lady and talk loudly about why people are still coming in (needless to say I was beyond uncomfortable at this point) the waiter once again walked back over to us several times until finally she reached over to take my finances tray (with his plates on it) WHILE he was still eating, and told he she was going to clean up. He replied he was still eating and as soon as he was done he would let her get it. She then began to breath loudly and reach down and grab my tray I told her "my family is not finished eating and do not come back until we have gotten up from the table to leave) finally she moved away once she heard the aggravation in my voice. It's just ridiculous. We spend 57 dollars on horrible food and poor service this will not...
Read moreI have enjoyed the original Goode Co BBQ location on Kirby Dr. When the Cypress restaurant opened, my wife and I went within a few months, but were not impressed with that location at all. So I have not returned in years. But not long ago I figured it was time to give them another try. I was hoping that the new pits were now much more seasoned and that the meat would be better. However, once again I was disappointed. I ordered the Texas Trinity of brisket, ribs and sausage, and had potato salad and french fries for sides. Details follow: ▪️Brisket - I asked for moist with some extra barky pieces. Sadly, there was no real bark to speak of. The texture was mushy and the fat was not well-rendered. And it did not really have a pleasing flavor. Very disappointed. Strike one. ▪️Pork ribs - What the cutters gave me were straggler end cuts from two different racks of spareribs. The flavor was ok, but nothing special. And they were very dry. End cuts have a risk of drying out anyway. And I am afraid my straggler cuts had also been sitting under a heat lamp for awhile. Strike two. ▪️Sausage - I chose their jalapeno sausage. It had decent flavor. But I am not a big fan of the grind of the sausage or how chewy the casing was. It was the best meat of the day. ▪️Potato salad - It was mushy. I understand that there are different schools of thought with potato salad. This one definitely leaned to the very "creamy" side, and did not have much flavor. ▪️French fries - They were over-cooked, not totally burnt, but very dark and not how I would have hoped for such a simple side.
Overall I was again not impressed at all with this location. Their barbecue just feels very commercial. I truly hope it is just this location. I have not tried the original on Kirby Dr in many years. Looks like I might need to. But for a drive to that area on Kirby, I'd rather go to The Pit Room, which has some absolutely spectacular barbecue. I hope Kirby is better. I've not ever had a good experience at the Cypress location. Don't waste your time going there. It's...
