I wanted to share a bit about our experience on March 28th. About 8-10 of my coworkers came over after work to watch the Astro's Opening Day game and have an impromptu happy hour.
The staff was great about letting us put together 3 or 4 tables in the bar area to accommodate us. We actually had 2 different servers. If you were the waitress who was there helping us before the shift change, I am really sorry that I'm blanking on your name. You were great too! After the shift change, Anna was our server.
A long time ago I was a server and you never really stop judging servers when you get out of the industry. You cut them slack when they have off nights. You tip better if they're great and if you get the chance, compliment the manager on how well the server did when they come around.
Anna (like Elsa and Anna) crushed it. We ordered tons of appetizers, tons of drinks and I'm pretty sure she was juggling other tables too. The thing was, she was on top of everything. She is a frickin' rock star at her job! Do you know how good you have to be at your job to be able to handle multiple tables and a large party and still make the guest feel like you're old friends?
Don't get me wrong. A few of us frequent Lazy Dog to go have a few drinks and the staff is usually great. Food is pretty great too. But again, if your staff's service is already really high, I just can't emphasize enough, how above and beyond you have to be to leave the impression Anna did.
My coworkers and I had a blast thanks to this amazing experience. To the point that when the manager (I believe he might have been the assistant manager [I apologize if I demoted you by accident in this review], he gave me his card and I couldn't find when I was writing this review) came over to check on us, we all had glowing things to say about Anna. I promised him I'd leave a review, it just took me a minute to do so. You were great too. Thank you for letting us try that Sushi thing! Oh and one last thing to note, the $1 wing promotion is fantastic. Hopefully that will stick around for a little while. We'll...
Read moreMy best friend has been here multiple times and said the burgers were really good, and he really enjoyed the food each time he went. With that recommendation, we decided to give it a shot.
We ordered 3 appetizers, the wings, Brussel sprouts, and the goat cheese and pepper jelly. The wings we ordered, cam out at a good temperature, but surprisingly came out fried "naked" without the saice on them. The sauces were in ramekins, Buffalo, blue cheese, and BBQ. The blue cheese tasted more like yogurt and didn't have much flavor, the Buffalo was decent, but not hot & the BBQ was as expected. I have to admit, reading "High-altitude", I imagined, at least the Buffalo sauce would have been spicy, it wasn't. The parmesian Brussel sprouts were great! They were cooked soft and came out hot and had an amazing flavor, easily the best item we had. The goat cheese and pepper jelly was also really good. I normally don't like goat cheese. But it had the right consistency, was soft & the pepper jelly was tasty and flavorful, even if inwoukd have preferred a little more spiciness.
The entrees were another story, they were both disappointing. The Thai noodles, I ordered with fresh jalapenos, to turn up the flavor a bit. That did not work, the noodles came out warm and the texture was good, but so bland. I even asked for peanut sauce (which came out really runny), and that didn't have much flavor either. The shrimp bowl wasn't any better. The fried and sauced shrimp literally just tasted like shrimp. I've never had a fried-sauce covered item with less flavor. In addition, the rice came out cold and way under cooked.
The service was also sub-par. We constantly found ourselves looking for and flagging down the server, including when we wanted to pay the check and leave.
Conclusion, it's not the worst meal or service I've had, but I wouldn't be recommending this place or going back anytime soon. They need to improve food quality and service....
Read moreI’ve been wanting to try this place for awhile and finally made it happen today! Great service, cool atmosphere, delicious food and priced lower than I expected. They have sweet tea and it’s goooood! We started with the crispy deviled eggs. They actual fry the outer egg, add the yellow with paprika and top it with their bacon candy. Great spin on regular deviled eggs and that bacon candy is amazing! They have a starter of just bacon candy, but I was concerned that would be too much. I’m glad we settled on the deviled eggs. It was a little taste of both options we wanted in one. They are served 4 to a plate, so it’s perfect for sharing with another person. For my lunch I had the Dirty Dog. It’s a Nathan’s hotdog wrapped in bacon, topped with blue cheese dressing (I substituted ranch since I don’t care much for blue cheese), a drizzle of buffalo sauce and waffle style potato chips. The bun was perfectly toasted. The whole thing was terrific! The bacon is regular bacon, not their bacon candy. It was so good! It was served with French fried and a side of coleslaw. They have different flavors of coleslaw. I chose the Thai version. Fries were great and the slaw was tasty too. My friend had the tortilla soup loaded with chicken, yummy cheese and parmesan bread crisp things on the side. I tried a piece and loved it! For her meal, she got the chicken salad sandwich with fries. She loved hers too. Their lunch specials are under $10 and they don’t skimp on the size. We were very impressed. Andres was our server. He took wonderful care of us. The restaurant has lots of TVs for viewing sports (GO ASTROS!), they have a large patio with a cool bonfire style pit I want to check out when it’s cold outside and they are dog friendly, so next time I’ll bring my pup. Highly recommend. They have lots of items on their menu, so there’s something...
