You know when you have a real hankering for Chinese buffet and you're from out of town, you have to rely on reviews here on the ole interweb. I really wanted to like this place. The atmosphere was okay for a Chinese buffet in the middle of Montana, and the setup was just like any other nice Chinese buffet you've ever been to, and the food was not like anything you'd ever want to eat again. It was dried out. It had some unusual flavors. The hot and sour soup tasted nothing like hot and sour soup I've ever had anywhere on the planet, so I guess they've cornered the market on that particular flavor, a market I would hate to corner. Unfortunate flavor does not help people want to eat your food. The food was served hot, and the buffet had all the things that you would expect on a Chinese buffet except beef. There were no beef dishes in the Chinese section. There was a pork dish. I'm not sure what it was supposed to be. There were several chicken dishes that all tasted exactly the same even though they all had different ingredients. The sesame chicken tasted just like the chicken and broccoli. I think that's a world record for confused flavors. There were a couple of shrimp dishes, but the shrimp had been so overcooked that they were like little pink plastic commas sitting in a steam table. I tried to run to the refuge of egg rolls; I mean who can screw up an egg roll? I now know who can screw up an egg roll. The price was only $11 and change, and I would have gladly paid more if I had received more - more fresh food, more flavorful food, more authentic tasting food, all those things that you want more of when you go to a Chinese restaurant. I have a feeling that if you were to go in and have them cook for you instead of throwing it out on a steam table you might get some really tasty dishes, but the way they're doing it it is not worth doing. I hate giving bad reviews, but I hate it more when I read a review and it says "oh how wonderful" and "oh how delightful" and you go in and it's just wonderfully...
Read moreThe Asian Buffet in Kalispell proved to be a delightful surprise, particularly considering the limited array of Asian dining options in the area.
The ambiance of the restaurant was inviting, characterized by ample lighting and a consistently clean atmosphere. The buffet tables were thoughtfully stocked with a variety of options, organized neatly, and meticulously maintained to ensure visual appeal.
The staff demonstrated efficiency, promptly seating us and seamlessly accommodating my request for a booth. They were attentive in clearing used plates from the table and ensuring our drinks remained filled throughout the dining experience.
The food selection was extensive, aiming to cater to a diverse clientele. However, my experience with the dishes was a mix of hits and misses, reflecting, I believe, a refined taste for quality Asian cuisine.
Certain sushi rolls stood out, displaying perfect rice texture and impeccable presentation. Yet, there were variations that left me wishing I hadn't tasted them. The fried shrimp were a notable success, expertly panko-breaded and meeting expectations. However, the Sweet and Sour, as well as the Sesame Chicken and General Tso's Chicken, presented similar challenges – an overwhelming sweetness and a lack of depth in flavor.
The primary draw to this establishment is undeniably the value it offers. For a reasonable price, patrons can enjoy a substantial meal, filling their bellies with a diverse array of dishes. In comparison to spending a similar amount at a fast-food chain for subpar food, the Asian Buffet emerges as a preferable alternative.
One advantage of buffets, as evident here, is the opportunity to sample various dishes without significant risk. If a particular dish doesn't suit your taste, it's a minor disappointment, and you can swiftly move on to explore other options without a...
