Burnt End BBQ in Crown Center — Restaurant in Kansas City

Likes - the food tasted great! The portions were big. The prices were very reasonable, actually on the low side. Dislikes - the service was SO BAD!! Our waitress refilled all the drinks for the MEN in our party, before their cups were empty. EVERY FEMALE in our party went dry & even had to finally ask for refills. She brought my tea back only 2/3 full but gave the man next to me a full to the rim glass of the exact same tea. When I asked if they were out of tea, she said no. So I asked if I could get my glass filled to the top as well (because it took so long to get this refill & I wanted to spare myself having to chase her down again), she said that my glass was full & she walled away... she never came back to fill glasses of any of us women but continued to keep the men's glasses refilled before they were empty. Stupid choice on her part because we women were the ones paying each of our tickets... even though she brought all the tickets to the men even though women asked for the tickets. This kind of service must be why this place was practically empty on a busy Saturday afternoon when the other restaurants in the mall had lines going out the door... Atmosphere was modern industrial. And while that looks cool, it made it impossible to talk to anyone other than the person sitting right next to you. High ceilings & no soft surfaces to absorb sound meant that When we tried to talk to the person sitting directly across the table, we had to yell. Forget about talking to anyone else down the table. I finally sat in silence & are my meal without much to drink. Between the horrendous service & the inability to actually socialize at the meal, I suggest doing the carry out & eat at home option because the food was delicious & prices are great. Just rating food & price, it's a 5 ⭐ ... even with the lack of ability to talk to the whole table, I'd still give it a 3 ⭐... but that waitress killed the whole experience & honestly almost got this a 1 ⭐ ... I think I'd rather just go to Arthur Bryant's instead of dealing with parking, walking & then getting 💩 service while not being able to carry conversation 😒 the food wasn't worth all that. Carry...

We stopped here because the lines at the other restaurants in crown center were down the hall and there was no one in line here. We found out why.

I got the half rack rib platter and it was disappointing. The fries were actually the best part and even they weren't great. The ribs were way over done... not fall off the bone but rather turn to mush in your mouth. I suppose that if you forgot your dentures then these ribs would be perfect. The onion rings were terrible. The thinnest onions that you can imagine and of course the entire onion pulled out when you took a bite. This is simple guys, just freeze the onions before processing them. It breaks down the cell walls so the onions break apart when you bite into them.

Service was fine once we got seated but servers and what appeared to be the host repeatedly walked by us without acknowledging us or saying a word until they were ready to seat us. Not even to ask how many. Nothing. You have to love when staff are walking by and you can see that they are consciously doing their best not to make eye contact with you so they don't have to talk to you.

Prices are high at $25-$30 per person without a drink. If you are looking for good BBQ, go almost anywhere else. If you are at crown center, the kids are screaming for something to eat, and this is the only option, just go in with low expectations and maybe it won't be as bad...

1hr 45 min process. Seated promptly Waited 20 min for a server to greet us and order drinks. Waited 30 min to get the drinks minus the kids drinks/placed food order as the server was scarce. At about 1hr 20 min mark we received one kids burger meal out of two, and one adult meal out of three. 25 min later still no kids meal for other child, and she became really emotional because of the process and our previous complaint as we asked for the manager and had discussions about the poor service throughout. Received the second kids meal and it was not a flat burnt dry patty like the first kids meal, but it looked bad. Received my burnt end meal but at this point I had been there 1hr 45 min or so and was able to gather 1 beer, kids drinks, 1 beverage for my wife, and the above mentioned food items, so I refused to eat because off all the chaos. Sorry folks, I can lay this review out better but I do not want to spend my Saturday morning on this, and it is as honest a review that I can write. Bottom line, waited much too long for 3 fifths of our order at a half full establishment, received poor presentation from the server and manager, and the food was given to us much too far apart, and it was not good.
