Update I did give this place an extra star (original post for 3) because after the review i did get an email from one of the owners, he provided me with an apology on the short email (some one else sent it, not him) as well as offered some insight to the tasting that night. Turns out there were other things that happened that were not in his control and they had to do some last minute planning. Life happens, i get it. He was also nice enough to offer to mail my glasses to me. I truly think these guys have a huge passion for what they do and my experience was nothing more than an off night. If and when im back in that area i would stop by to try it again.
This place is ok, not bad but not good. I have only been there once so it could have just been the time I went. We got tickets to their "absinthe experience", this was to include a few drinks, tasting, history, tour and glass. We got there a bit early so we had a drink at the bar, the drink was good but the people at the bar were a little rude and short with me when i placed my order, I feel like they use quality ingredients and have good choices however there was so much ice in the drink it really only equaled 2-3 sips, for a $12 drink i would have liked a little bit more, but the drink did taste good. The event was a cool idea and I did enjoy learning about this history, the drinks they served during the event were verry good and you can tell they have a passion for what they do. The down side was that there were to many people at the event to really enjoy it, the building is really cool and they have done a great job restoring it but it's very small so we did not have much room to move around with 30+ people. The "tour" was showing us the 2 rooms they use, one being the one we were in, once again it is a cool building but there were so many people you could not move around to see much. There presentation was ok, I did learn about the history but there was equipment still running so it was really hard to hear. The actual tasting was really cool because they used a reproduction fountain so it was a unique experience. we did not get our glass and I did not see them set out so we decided to head home when it was done, I sent an email to the company asking if this was something that was over looked or a miss print on the ticket and i got a very short email back saying i can come pick it up, No explanation or apology just that i can come get it. I do appreciate them getting back to me but i live about an hour away so i don't think i will make the trip to get it. I love seeing KC grow with small businesses and i hope that they can stick it out and be successful, however i feel that if you are looking for a cool unique place to go there are better options in KC. Maybe it was just the night i went unfortunately im not sure i would go back or recommend this to...
Read moreWe were on our first night in Kansas City( Thursday October 27th, 2022) and wanted to have a more local experience as far as going out for cocktails. I found Lifted Spirits via GOOGLE and my partner, Brian, and I agreed it sounded interesting. So, we went. We arrived pretty early so it wasn't very busy, just yet. We were greeted by a really nice fellow named Michael upon seating ourselves at the bar. After chatting a few about his distillery business we realized he is the owner. He was fascinating to talk to and it was easy to discern that not only does he know his stuff, but also has a strong passion for his craft. Another interesting thing was he also has a background in education as I do. I also noted he was very hands-on with his business, and very down to earth. A lot of times, owners of are not seen and, if they are , don't always take time to chat so openly with customers. You can really tell Michael loves what he does. As we were talking, the bartender, Sunny, was serving us. Her name fit her disposition as she was also very friendly. She has only been there a short time but it is obvious she has learned much in that time. We asked her to select what we would drink, four times no less, and each time was a home run. I learned much about the distillation of gin from both her and Michael and was surprised to find out not all gin tastes, as Michael put it, "like getting beat up by a pine cone in an alley". We tried at least two varieties of gin which I found amazing and I was never a fan of this drink before now. We also enjoyed their in-house made Absinthe, served traditionally with the sugar cube and cold water. Michael's version of Absinthe was tasty and did not have the overpowering licorice taste one would expect. Very herby and spicy. Anyway, we ended up, as I mentioned before, having four cocktails. All very tasty and perfectly made by Sunny. I have to say, the conversation and drinks we enjoyed at Lifted Spirits were among the highlights of our trip to Kansas City, MO. We purchased some bottles to bring home because unfortunately, they cannot ship them.....yet. Hopefully, soon, they will be able to. I highly recommend Lifted Spirits as a must do while visiting Kansas City. They also do tours of the distillery, but they request you book 24 hours in advance. We weren't able to do a tour but if we are in KC again, we will be sure to do so. Thanks again, Michael and Sunny for a...
Read moreWe are so disappointed in ourselves for not having visited Lifted Spirits before now!! I read in the paper recently that they make their own absinthe and do the traditional service so, having experienced this in Colorado, thought we needed to check it out. Our server, Kelsi, was amazing. She was attentive without being overly so and she knows the menu inside and out, able to make excellent suggestions when asked. She was the only server for much of the Saturday evening we were there and she handled it flawlessly. Thankfully, she kept us well hydrated, too! Ultimately, the absinthe itself was not our favorite but, wow, everything else is amazing!!! They have the best cocktail list we have seen for some time, with both a plentiful regular menu and an extensive Signature menu that changes seasonally. We met the creator of this menu, Sage, when she delivered us a sample of her Cereal Killer Milk Punch. We had been intrigued by this but rejected it as possibly too sweet considering the main ingredients is Fruity Pebbles milk. Were we wrong!! It is made like a traditional milk punch (I've only seen bourbon versions but this one was gin) and is not overly sweet, just a wonderful, smooth, somewhat fruity flavor. The vibe is casual, the building full of character and the music was perfect. I enjoyed facing the bar so I could see the crafters at work. We will definitely be...
