Without a doubt the best Rubin in town! I'm surprised that I have never been here until now. The Milwaukee deli is easy to find at 101 west 9th Street downtown Kansas City MO where they have been for over 100 years (with a few interruptions). A small but lively joint with a well stocked bar and professional staff checks a lot of boxes for me. The large photograph right inside the front door captured the deli receiving the first delivery of beer from a famous st Louis team of Clydesdales after the end of prohibition in 1933. Although the dining room is small we didn't have to wait for a table on a weekday at around 1 o'clock. From my table I observed a steady stream of hungry diners who also had only a short wait to be seated. I had to try the Rubin and I was not disappointed as it was GREAT! I had the classic central branch Rubin served on a marble rye as a proper Rubin should be and grilled to perfection. It's a winner!! The German potato salad was also excellent. The princess had a grilled cheese with bacon and declared it to be a winner as well. Our waitress, Megan, although busy was very patient and more than happy to answer my question and keep my bottomless soda glass full. Thank you Megan for an excellent experience. This Kansas City restaurant is hitting on all eight cylinders and not to be missed. Put this one on your must do list for the new year. I am certain to return soon.

I was staying in downtown KC and looking on social media for something interesting for dinner and the reviews for this place were great, so I walked about a mile to get there. They were pretty busy when I got there (on a Saturday evening), but I didn’t have to wait, as there was one table (and no bar seats) available. My server was great… she was helpful and friendly. They have an interesting menu with sandwiches, pizzas and sausages… in fact, their story centers around Polish sausages and such. Once I knew this I understood the name of the place. I have to admit that I thought the name was really odd, as we were in KC. I started with one of their cocktails, a strawberry cooler and it was excellent! Very flavorful and not sweet at all! I can’t stand beverages filled with simple syrup and this was great! Then I got my pizza… it looked decent, even though one slice was “missing!” There was literally one slice in area on that pie without any toppings at all – odd! The crust was soft, decent flavor. The toppings were decent too. The combo of the crust and toppings was slightly off, but decent… Not sure what it was, but something about the texture and flavor combo that didn’t impress me, yet was decent enough to enjoy. Overall, I enjoyed the visit and would most definitely return, I’d just get one of their sandwiches or a sausage or something.

Bottom line: Pizza slices were very good, but be prepared to wait. Visited Friday afternoon and the place was at capacity. After a wait, we were seated. The woman who sat us said she would get us waters. Never saw those. The male waiter then came a bit later and took our order. We ordered our drinks and food at once to save some time. The drinks took quite a while to come. (Draft beer and a lemonaid) The server apologized for the delay. Pizza also took quite a while. We just ordered two slices. Again, apologies. They are obviously understaffed as a lot of places are. Then they charged another tables food to my card and canceled, with more apologies. He did comp the drinks on the tab for us, which was nice. Again, pizza was very good.

So I'm. Unsure if it was a racial issue or what but I was the only minority that was in this location at the time. I ordered then used the restroom. Then the manager thought she could scold me for not ordering from the correct person due to the fact I was dining in considering I had told the person that took my payment as to what I was going to do. She said something of the sort that if I see her face I better order off her as if I'm suppose to personal recognize her every time I come in. She was visible annoyed by my presence and the fact that I had planned to dine in.The owner made the situation no better and I guess approved her behavior. No one apologized at the time and the owner said a odd comment when I was telling him the situation. He said something of the sort of you know how some ppl like to start problems...so idk if he was referring to me but that's how I took it. None the less I felt super unwelcomed and believe the situation and attitude I was given was due to my skin color possibly not but its not the way I took it. And it was odd for them to take payment prior to me eating so I guess they didn't believe I would have the Money.y to payI got a refund and left without the pizza. So from all this I got due to me being an African American I was made to feel uncomfortable if I wanted to dine in

I am new to this city and have told other ppl of this situation of how I was treated and believed it to be due to my skin color and they had already been aware of unfaulir treatment from what sounds like to be the same female manager so this resturant and workers must already have a reputation of how they...

First time visiting KC and eating at this restaurant. i had such a great experience! We could smell the pizza from multiple buildings away as we walked up! It’s summer now and this restaurant had crisp-cool air conditioning. i was so grateful for it after walking there from a decent distance away downtown. (Some KC restaurants i visited had such poor air conditioning that it deterred me as a guest because of the uncomfortable, stuffy feeling and hot air in a busy, crowded restaurant!)

We sat at the bar and dined in. Their pizza was sooo delicious. I was impressed with this restaurant’s chill vibe even when it was completely packed. We went back the next day for some more good eatin but we didn’t realize it was closed on Sundays— bummer!

I liked our bartender —she was friendly, sweet and definitely tended to our needs as we ate. I felt well taken care of :) I think I either saw the manager or the owner walking around and helping staff pre-buss plates and glasses with a smile; he seemed genuinely happy to do so! it was unique to see, so it made me smile as a guest.

As we were walking away to leave the restaurant, i think we passed by one of their cooks on his break outside. He kindly asked “how was the pizza?!” and i said “sooo good!!” i could see that he took pride in his work and wanted to make sure we had a good tasting meal. i appreciated our interaction and it made me even happier as we left.

If only i lived here it could be one of my favorite and regular...
