The Bar West Plaza — Restaurant in Kansas City

I don’t usually leave reviews like this, but what happened tonight was unacceptable. I was at the bar with a couple friends, just trying to enjoy a night out. Everything was fine—until the only Hispanic person in our group started getting unfair treatment from the bartender.

It felt targeted, disrespectful, and completely out of line. We were calm, respectful, and spending money like everyone else in the bar, yet somehow he was singled out. And when we spoke up, we were the ones kicked out.

If this is how you treat your customers—especially people of color—it says a lot about the culture you're promoting inside your establishment. Really disappointing experience, and we won’t be coming back.

UPDATE: Not sure what the response from owner is. What had happened was a NON guest at the time (a friend of mine who came in 10 minutes after us) finished a beer off property premise. Our server Miles told him (before he was a guest or before he sat down) told him to follow him inside and show him where the trash can was. Miles directly told my friend he could throw it in there. He also then refused to fill his water up but he filled mine and our other guest at the table 3 times. 5 minutes later the bartender who was not serving us walked over to our table and rudely yelled where other customers could hear her about the said beer can. The treatment we received was a disgrace. Especially when I have came in many times, tipping 25 percent even when service was slow or inattentive. Do better and maybe communicate better...

Came to watch the Husker game. Not crowded when we arrived. No acknowledgment from staff well after sitting down. Finally a nice gentleman said the gal running around had our table and would be with us soon. She was a waitress/bartender served 2 new tables before taking our drink order. I explained to our group of 8 that clearly they are short staffed and to be patient. However, waitress behaved annoyed when we politely asked about missing drinks and food. Lunch delivered very very late, we almost left without eating and other patrons had left without food. Instead of an apology of any kind the waitress stood at the computer and complained about patrons checking with her on when they could expect their orders. Nothing was discounted for such poor service. We thought for sure she the Shirley Temple for my 10 year old that took an hour and a half to get would be taken off. The obnoxious attitude is why we reviewed (this is maybe my second review of my entire life) Being understaffed is just something we have to be understanding of - being mocked when asking about drinks and food missing into an hour and longer - ridiculous. At the very end she was apologetic. Waitress/bartender would benefit from stress coaching and learn to communicate to patrons. Most people would wait patiently if treated politely. I was in the city visiting and was hoping to find some good food next to my hotel in the Country Club Plaza. I am thrilled I found this place. I ordered a West and veggie wrap to have food for the day. Well, I ended up with two days of lunch and dinner. The wraps were very large and came with a good portion of fries. I had substituted one order of French fries for sweet potato fries. The sweet potato fries were so good, I regretted not choosing two orders of them. I found they included a sauce and was pleasantly surprised to find it was a delicious marshmallow sauce. The food was great, and I got four meals out of the deal for only 30 bucks. My leftovers were just as good cold! I did not want to reheat the buffalo and guacamole ranch. Literally the only critique I could give is to perhaps put a little less sauce on the wraps so it is not as messy. I also would have had to take a spice break if I had eaten the entire West wrap in a setting. I can simply request that next time though. It was still tasty!

Furthermore, inside of the restaurant looked nice and clean. There was a bar and a wall dividing the dining area. The man who was working at the time was nice and got me taken care of quickly.

I will certainly be coming back here the next time I visit this city. They had a good menu of drinks. I didn't get to try one, but I will be looking forward to trying a...
