When Lemony Snicket penned, "A Series of Unfortunate Events," perhaps he was inspired by some unexpected, lamentable experience. Today, I also had a series of unfortunate events, beginning when my husband suggested we drive to the Plaza for dinner at P.F. Chang's. Unfortunately, the restaurant had a sign on their locked door that they were closed for remodeling, so we decided to go to Bo Lings instead (it had been years since we ate there but we had good memories of their meals).  The host graciously escorted us to a booth in the very attractive dining room. Unfortunately, our waiter, "D" was less than cordial and didn't stop by to be sure our meal was satisfactory. Unfortunately, it was quite unsatisfactory: my egg drop soup had an unusual orange appearance (see photo, unedited) and was rather tasteless. The egg rolls were minimally warmed and unappetizing. My husband had to go find "D" to refill our water glasses and refresh his soda. Later, when "D" arrived with the check and to clear the table, my husband asked why the soup was that color. Unfortunately, "D" asked me, "What color is it in your recollection?"  I said it was orange. He just shook his head and walked away. FORTUNATELY, on our way out of the restaurant, we passed the table of a couple where the husband was eating a bowl of egg drop soup. We stopped momentarily to ask the man what color he would call the soup and he replied, "Dark orange ... and not very good!"

I've never eaten anywhere in the Plaza before, and never tried Bo Lings before as well. My partner was excited to bring me here and get the whole duck together. From the moment we walked in, it was a disappointing experience. The host was rude and short with us, and his expressions screamed "I hate my life and I want to jump off of a bridge". We ordered crab rangoons, and watched as a table who was seated and ordered after us received theirs about 10 minutes before us, and when we did receive them, they were mediocre at best; something you'd expect from a cheap Chinese restaurant. We also ordered the whole duck, excited to have leftovers to make sandwiches tomorrow, but we were given the driest, chewiest meat we have ever had. Beef jerky would have been easier to eat. They let us trade it out for something else, but that was also unsatisfactory. Not to mention the gnats flying around and landing on our food. Overall a terrible experience.

I'm from out of town and was expecting the restaurant to be located in a shopping area. However, the restaurant I went to - the Plaza location - was in a busy area with street parking. I ordered online for pickup because we got into town after 10pm. We got to the restaurant, found parking outside the restaurant reserved for pickup and walked into the restaurant. We got to the restaurant right before 11 pm and there were still a number of patrons dining. The restaurant itself was very open, clean, and inviting. The interior decor was beautiful Chinese/Asian sculptures and wood carvings. I ordered a few items off of the dim sum menu, the chow fun noodles, and the kids crispy chicken (basically sweet and sour chicken). The food was delicious and wasn't any worse or much more different than other Chinese dim sum places. Definitely fulfilled my cravings for more traditional Chinese food.

If you’re in Kansas City and craving authentic Chinese cuisine, look no further than Bo Lings, a culinary gem that sets the standard for excellence in both food and service. As a long-time fan, I can confidently say that this restaurant is, without a doubt, the best Chinese food establishment in the entire region!

From the moment you step inside Bo Lings, you’re greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere that perfectly balances modern elegance with a touch of traditional Chinese decor. The ambiance sets the stage for a fantastic dining experience, whether you're on a casual outing with friends or celebrating a special occasion with family.

Now, let’s get to the heart of the matter—the food. Bo Lings offers an extensive menu filled with a dazzling array of dishes that pay homage to traditional Chinese flavors while incorporating their unique twists. Each dish bursts with freshness, quality, and unparalleled taste. Whether you opt for the classic Kung Pao Chicken, savory Peking Duck, or the mouthwatering Dim Sum, you'll find yourself in food heaven. The secret behind their incredible flavors seems to be the perfect balance of spices and ingredients, all made with care and expertise. Plus, their vegetarian options are just as delightful!

Another highlight is their commitment to using high-quality ingredients, which really makes each dish stand out. The vibrant colors, enticing aromas, and perfectly cooked textures create a feast for the senses. I highly recommend exploring their daily specials—many of which showcase seasonal favorites and highlight the chefs' creativity.

When it comes to service, Bo Lings truly shines. The staff is friendly, attentive, and genuinely passionate about delivering a delightful dining experience. They go above and beyond to ensure your needs are met—whether you’re looking for recommendations or have special dietary requests, they are always eager to help. The efficiency of the service also deserves a mention; your food arrives promptly, allowing you to relish each bite without an extended wait.

Lastly, I must stress the importance of leaving room for dessert at Bo Lings. Their selections are a perfect way to end your meal on a sweet note. The Mango Mousse and the Fried Bananas are both delightful choices that will have you savoring every last bite.

In conclusion, Bo Lings is more than just a restaurant; it’s a destination for anyone who appreciates high-quality Chinese cuisine in Kansas City. With its unparalleled food, top-notch service, and inviting atmosphere, it’s no wonder I consider it the best Chinese restaurant around. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, make Bo Lings a must-visit spot—you won’t be...

I have procrastinated writing this, but I want people to know about my experience here on my birthday. I brought my little brother, my boyfriend, my two best friends, and my boyfriend's parents. It took us 15 minutes of sitting before our water came. First, our waitress came to the table and looked at my dear friend, who is a beautiful black woman and was wearing dark lipstick and a lovely purple dress. She said to our table "I thought Halloween was over." We all looked at each other, confused. She repeated herself, "I thought Halloween was over." Do we look odd, we finally asked. And I realized that she was zoning in on my friend. She then commented on her dark lipstick, which complimented her skin, but apparently made our waitress feel that it was funny. She then went to get our appetizers, and they came STILL before we got any water. Finally I went to the host and begged for water because we were so thirsty, we were cracking jokes about drinking from the bathroom sink. The waitress never acknowledged or apologized for not bringing water. She then continued to talk to my friend in a condescending tone, treating her terribly as she ordered, repeating what she said like she was a child. It was making us all so uncomfortable. She brought her a very odd dish, and when my friend questioned it, she said she would have to charge her to change it. I was angry and asked for the manager, who said the waitress was just new to American culture and she defended her inappropriate behavior with our table. She offered my friend a different dish, at which point we said "that IS what she ordered in the first place." So she had intentionally brought my friend the wrong food. The manager still charged her for the food and then had the audacity to add gratuity to our bill, when the woman who waited on us gave the worst service in the history of waitressing. She also kept harassing my friend after reporting to the manager, apologizing but then asking questions and just driving her crazy. The manager should have removed this woman from caring for our party long before this. What a terrible birthday dinner. They had some dishes I really enjoyed but I will NEVER go back. A terrible discriminatory waitress topped with a manager who barely bothered to fix the situation. I've had better service...

I don't normally visit this establishment but when family members have their events here, I attend. The food is normally fresh and delicious but is overpriced. I visited last night for a birthday dinner, the service was very fast and prompt, but when my food arrived, it looked delicious but I did notice there was a pungent smell of rancid cabbage that overpowered all of my dishes. I ordered combination lo mein, crab rangoon, and shrimp dumplings. I've ordered this meal previously and this food never smelled bad any other time. I assumed I was being sensitive since everyone else at the table was enjoying their food. I proceeded to eat a few bites of the dumplings, and there was a bad aftertaste so I did not finish them at all. I also shared my food with my mother and my daughter since the portions are so generous. The flavors of the lo mein and crab rangoon were fine, but I couldn't ignore the smell and eventually my stomach turned. Soon, my stomach was upset and I spent the rest of the meal going back and forth to the restoom. The last trip, I puked up half of my food, so I became upset. I come back to the table, everyone else was getting ready to leave but my mom and daughter complained of a stomach ache as well, so my mom took my baby to the restroom while I talk to the "manager" who says her name is Jennifer. I explained the situation and she refused to be of any assistance aside from taking my phone number and saying the "owner" will call me back. My mother paid the check already before heading to the restroom, so all I asked was that they refund the food that we couldn't enjoy. The food was packaged up on the table, I told her to smell the food so that she could see I wasn't lying about the rancid odor. She basically said I couldn't prove we were getting sick because of the food and she couldn't help any further. Even though my daughter and mother were BOTH in the bathroom experiencing the same symptoms of diarrhea and vomiting after eating off of my plates. I'm extremely disappointed in how the situation was handled. My daughter still had diarrhea the next morning, and needless to say we will NOT be attending anymore functions at this restaurant because...
