It was tough deciding whether to give this place 4 or 5 stars. Ultimately I give 4 because there are some things that need improvement.
I brought my niece here as a graduation gift. This is where she chose to eat. We came as a party of four. Upon entering we realized it was way too cold inside, so asked to be seated outside. She sat us outside in the sun, which was a bit intense, and there was a table in the shade, but since we had already asked to be moved, we didn’t want to make any more fuss. So we sat in the sun. Our waitress was very attentive and helpful. We ordered a blueberry lemonade, mango lemonade and two frozen mint lemonade’s. My blueberry lemonade was too sweet so I didn’t finish it. The mint lemonade was amazing!
We ordered a falafel and hummus plate as an appetizer. The hummus was very plain. They had a kind of relish on one end and a hot sauce on the other end, but even so, it was a very bland hummus. The falafel was very good! Crisp and fresh. The tahini dipping sauce was ok.
I ordered the gyro platter. It came with a deliciously seasoned and unique rice. It also came with a spinach spanakopita, roasted vegetables, fresh tomatoes, tzatziki sauce, and some feta cheese and Kalamata olives. The carrots were not cooked long enough but the rest of the vegetables were good. The meat was very good! I don’t order gyro very often, but this was seasoned perfectly! My daughter and niece both ordered the dill chicken pita sandwich with Cajun fries. They were not Cajun seasoned fries. They were just regular fries. The sandwiches were delicious. They both could only eat half of their food and took home the rest for later. My husband ordered the shrimp plate because he wasn’t very hungry. It came with 5 grilled shrimp. He said it was very good. The restroom was actually really nice. I took a picture because it was really cute.
The total bill was $120 with tip. I might return here, but I would skip the hummus. Wear long pants and long sleeves if...
Read moreThis month is Father's Day, and I love my dad. I love his spirit of adventure. I love the story that he'll have to write down in his memoir. I love how certainly he knows a part of his soul is buried in Jerusalem to stay. I also love my cousins and their family's distinct point of view on things and this world. I love the story we'll all have to share after we have navigated the twists and turns of this life, and I even friend love the total strangers who help make that possible, even if they're just getting paid to do it. So I have to share this review of Cafe Jerusalem. We have been going there for their special service to the community of Kansas City and the rest of the world since we were young. I remember when my brother would always get a huge pita at the food court in Oak Park Mall. Fast forward years later. It's Christmas. We're in Kansas City with my aunt, uncle, and cousins. We find out the original location in Westport is the place they were praising all these years. We had fun 😊 And we got full. My brother and their son have been like brothers from different mothers, so it came as no surprise to anyone when they tucked into pitas together 😁 My sister and their daughters all shared baklava and halvah. Me, I did what I always do: I made the waitress run back and forth as I sucked down the mint tea. Best of all, my dad was so thrilled with the place, he said it got him ready for his next trip to Israel ☺️ Keep doing what you're doing. You guys help people make memories. I'm serious....
Read moreThis is the first restaurant that we have tried since arriving in Kansas City. The restaurant was clean and artful. Our server was great.
For starters we had lentil soup, za'ter, taboula salad, falafel ,hummus and stuffed grape leaves dolama I believe . I didn't like the za'ter maybe I will try it with meat next time. I've never cared for falafel but this falafel was the best I've ever tasted in the history of falafel. It was a beautiful sight and the interior was so rich and delicious. The lentil soup was perfect and the dolama was good too. The hummus ...oooh that hummus was the second best hummus I've ever tasted. The best was found the next day at a restaurant in Chicago but I digress. This hummus was so creamy flavorful and spicy. We couldn't get enough of it.
I was already a bit full when the main course arrived. We had a bit of everything: gyro meat, kabob, lamb, chicken with rice. The gyro meat was seasoned to perfection. The kabob and chicken had no taste whatsoever and the lamb was a bit tough. The ball was definitely dropped there. It was disappointing considering how great everything else tasted. For dessert we had a beautiful red kunafa. It was thinner than what I've previously had but it was just as tasty. I just wish it had a bit more of that oily substance. I love kunafa. For our drinks we had mango lemonade and strawberry lemonade. The colors were bright and both flavors were perfect. Great place to eat and hopefully the meat will be better...
