Place has only been open a couple of weeks when we visited. Very clean and all the employees behind the counter were welcoming and friendly. We had the fried chicken plates, French dip sandwich, strawberry salad, cherry pies plus St Arnold’s root beer. The mashed red bliss potatoes were not my favorite. They weren’t seasoned and surprisingly dry for a mash. The super thick country gravy helped a bit but not by much. The fried chicken itself was extremely tender and delicious. It was chicken breast pounded flat, similar to a Katsu style but using flour instead of panko. Recommend that for sure. Coleslaw was clunky and had a greasy aftertaste. The French dip sandwich is highly recommended. The au jus was a tad salty but pulled together with the sandwich, it ended up being fantastic. Strawberry salad had pieces of diced chicken that were over cooked. The cherry pie flavors reminded me of an artificial maraschino cherry. It was very similar to a food service pie filling or Comstock canned cherry filling. The crumble/streusel topping was soggy. There was a middle aged man who came by our table and asked if we needed anything. When we said we did, he looked so put off. Don’t offer help if you don’t want to interact or perform customer service tasks. We were being nice and not acting like a table of high maintenance Karen’s. After he begrudgingly brought back a beverage. We asked if there was anyway we could request another. He said sure and left. Never came back. If we never saw this person or talked with him, the dining experience would have been much better. He left us waiting so we went up to the register to order some additional items and another root beer. He was quick to tell us that the root beer price is per glass because it’s a brewed item . Lol everyone in Houston is familiar with St Arnold’s root beer. I don’t mind paying per glass but keep the snark to yourself when someone is asking a question. Overall, I’m slightly inclined to try this place again because the menu has so many interesting choices. I’ll probably wait a couple of months...
Read moreI saw this on one of Good Taste with Tanji episode and family decided to give it a try. I have never driven in old Town Katy and I live only 20 mins away! We walked in and the room was bright and inviting. The menu consists of country comfort food and there were special dishes on certain day i.e. chicken dumpling on Mon etc while the dinner menu is served after 4pm.
We ordered at the counter and cashier provided us a number and we found ourselves a table. Sit outside if the day allows it. We ordered:
Mushroom Swiss burger with zucchini fries - my son enjoyed the burger cooked medium on Texas toast. I tried his zucchini fries and they were out of this world; crispy on the outside and zucchini was perfectly cooked. Dipped in ranch dressing only made it better
French dip with au jus and chips - my hubby did not want to add cheese and he and I shared. The bread was soft and absorbed the au jus just fine. The au just was a bit salty but the sandwich made up as it was under seasoned
Buttermilk fried chicken salad with balsamic vinaigrette - keep it healthy: -) all I can say is yummo; the chicken nuggets were tender and moist but lack seasoning; adding salad dressing helps. The veggies were fresh and loved the avocado in the salad
Don't forget dessert yall! We ordered the key lime pie which we highly recommend. There was one other place that we had to travel far to get our key lime pie fix but now we finally found this place since its closer to home. I prefer this version because of the crust since it was made with graham cracker crust vs the crust included nuts. The graham cracker crust paired well with this key lime pie and the amount of cream and custard were balanced plus you could taste the lime flavor yet not so tart. The cookies were a favorite of my son especially the snickerdoodle...he told me that eating the cookie remind him of grandma's baking ...Just heaven!
Definitely will return to try other items on the menu and perhaps come in during...
Read moreI just got home from buying dinner for my family from this place ! We actually love the food and atmosphere We have been there many many times dining in and also picking up to go orders As well as giving several 100.00 gift certificates to our friends, this is how much we loved the place. Love supporting small locals business since we own one for that last 40 years . So we WERE regulars until this happened . My order was incomplete! Coming home after a day of work seating down to the table to an incomplete dinner was very upsetting. I immediately called this restaurant and asked for the manager . He said “ I remember your order I packed “ ……………..” but let me check and I called you back . I waited for a phone call did not happen . I called back , ask for Steve the manager He said he tried to call me 3 times for it didn’t go through. ok ? Well I will take his words for it. And he said the cashier did not understood my order .” Good news we did not charged you for the chicken dish “ We apologize! That’s it .! I’m a grown successful man I don’t have the need to try to get food for free ! But Mr manager this is not the way you handle a situation that cost you less that half of your $13.50 retail price. You have lost a client that has spent hundreds of dollars during several months since you opened . Very upsetting getting home with an incomplete dinner for 3 people. I do understand that things like this happen but I would have liked more than good thing you didn’t get charge and I am not talking about anything free. We will not...
