So, my experience at Folios was honestly a letdown. The pricing felt like a total ripoff. I got a burrito that was $18.50, and even with Hawaii’s GE tax, there was no way it should’ve jumped to $24. The math just didn’t make sense. It was very hard to push the tip button on top of that.
I ordered a California burrito, and it was pretty plain. The French fries inside were undercooked, so they were kind of mushy. The carne asada seemed like it had just been sitting around steaming instead of fresh off the grill, and the salsas were just bland and didn’t add anything.
And yeah, the service didn’t help. The staff member with the curly, bluish purplish hair seemed annoyed that I came in 25 minutes before closing, and she just told me I had to order to go. It felt really unwelcoming.
Honestly, I wanted to like this place, especially after reading their reviews… it’s unfortunate, I wish I could get my money back, especially the tip. If you’re looking for Mexican food on Kauai, I’d say skip this place and...
Read moreMy husband and I stopped here after a flight before heading to our condo. We were absolutely BLOWN AWAY by the food. They were very busy later in the evening when we arrived, which we knew meant it would be good. We did have a little bit of a wait for our food (because they make everything fresh + they were busy), but they were upfront with us about that before we even ordered. We didn’t mind waiting at all. We said without a doubt these were the best tacos we’ve ever had in our life, and we eat a lot of tacos. I got the queso birria plate & my husband got the carnitas nachos and then we also got a pork belly taco on the side. I’ve been dreaming of these tacos ever since I had the first bite. The owner came out from the kitchen and spent some time talking to us, he was so incredibly kind. I wish I could pick up this restaurant and take it home with us. Everyone should visit this place at least once...
Read moreI'll jump right into it. Service is fine. Polite, nice. The place has clearly been newly renovated and you can sit down to eat. It's not inviting you to sit down and stay awhile, but it's fine. A bit of music from the back bleeding into what's playing in the front, which was slightly uncomfortable/dissonant.
I had the enchiladas, my husband had the quesadilla. The actual main itself was... fine. For both of us. Decent. Not the best, not the worst. Needed a good dose of salsa verde. But the sides man. Absolutely inedible beans, sloppy/goopy and GRAY. Rice is basically white rice with maybe some paprika for color? Plain and boring. I eat a lot of Mexican food and it's usually my favorite, so this was very disappointing.
To top it off, we're talking almost $20 per plate, plus drinks and tip. I would not, and will not,...
