Believe me when I say, I have experienced the Subway nightmare. On November 20, 2022, I’m in the last half of my 13-hour drive home when I stop for lunch at 4612 Portland Rd in Salem, Oregon. After maneuvering through a cramped parking lot, I enter the Subway to be told they are out of the veggie patty. No thanks, I don't want anything else. Two and a half miles later, I stop at 2535 Jorie Ln in Keizer, Oregon. What a traffic mess getting to this Subway! But I’m sure they’ll have the veggie patty. Nope. But this time I’m given more information: Subway is no longer carrying the veggie patty (which would've been nice to know the first time). Okay then, I’ll just order a cheese sub (I have to ask for more mustard). I’m on I-5 North again when I bite into my sandwich. Yuck! I can only stomach two bites because of the excess mustard (the girl went the other extreme when I asked for more). I want to take it back, but I’m already well on my way. But look, here’s another Subway 4 miles further at 4220 Brooklake Rd in Brooks, Oregon. I’ll just exchange my sandwich here for a new one. But no, the girl has to ask her manager if that’s okay. He comes out to say, “You’ll have to go back to the Subway you bought it from.” Are you kidding me? Who will pay for my wasted gas and time? Infuriated, I throw my sandwich in the trash on the way out the door, vowing to never eat at Subway again. I just wasted nearly an hour at three Subways and $7.29 on a sandwich I couldn't eat.
On December 5, 2022, an office administrator responds to my complaint. She excuses the poor customer service at the third Subway by stating that each store is individually owned and operated. But what makes her email especially delightful is how she will compensate me for my loss: "If you will provide your mailing address, I would be happy to send you a voucher for a free sandwich GOOD AT THE ORIGINAL STORE THAT YOU PURCHASED THE SANDWICH AT" (emphasis added). That's 284 miles from where I live! No thanks for the voucher, but a big thanks for reinforcing...
Read moreTL;DR don't go especially with mobile orders Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. There's never going to be a third time. Management is either non-existent or needs to be fired. (1st time) There were no customers and we waited 20 minutes outside watching as 5 employees did nothing but talk and mess around instead of starting our mobile order. When we went inside they still took 10 minutes to fulfill our order. They also historically get things wrong constantly. They also hide the ingredients unlike other stores so you cant see them. (2nd and worst time) My husband and I made the unfortunate mistake of ordering online at this location again. It seems whatever trash manager runs this place made the "executive" decision to handle online orders after walk ins no matter what. And by that I mean we showed up, they acknowledged they had/saw our order and knew we were there waiting and already paid. Instead of serving us 45 minutes went by with an infinite walk in line of people who hadn't paid yet and got there almost an hour after us yet they were STILL being served first. 45 minutes..... so we got in line and 7 minutes later they asked us what we wanted and we obviously requested a refund. They rudely pointed out their made up "policy" of serving no pay-walk ins over paid/ordered/present mobile orders to which I obviously called out the unintelligent nature of. I genuinely believe with the way the line was going I could have been there HOURS waiting for the food I already paid for and ordered just because the employees are incapable of using common sense...
Read moreStopped in for a quick bite with our travelling parties (we split off into different groups and ours decided that we wanted some subs!) and when we walked in, there was no one at the time which was normal as we walked in after the meal rush periods.
Forgot to check the name on the young male employee that helped us (and one of his female team member who was at first handling orders on a headset but came out to assist when she assessed how busy it was for him as 2 other customers had walked in while this young man was taking the order for 7 of us).
Had a casual conversation as he was trying to build our orders and he asked us where we were from and we mentioned that we were visiting from Canada. He was polite, courteous and even wished us a wonderful time travelling when we were done with our orders!
I definitely walked in with zero expectations as I normally do and when experiences like this was genuine and friendly, I do take the moment to shine a spotlight on the deserving employees! I regret not being able to capture their names however we came in on a Thursday May 2nd, 2024 afternoon, after the lunch rush but before the dinner time period. Whoever was all working that day around that time period, they all deserve a pat on the back for being pretty amazing. They left a good memory for tired travellers (us) and it takes just a polite exchange to uplift the atmosphere :) So thank you, thank you...
