Big Daddy's Ice Cream — Restaurant in Kennebunkport

Of the three local ice cream shops in Kennebunkport, Big Daddy's stands out with its panoply of flavors. The expansive menu allows for a myriad of experiences and likely has a flavor suitable for everyone. Additionally, while I like to savor my ice cream plain, the ability to customize your ice cream with an array of toppings offers another avenue for novelty.

As for the ice cream itself, the quality is a 4/5. I'm not an ice cream savant, so I can't articulate what's lacking, but I have had qualitatively better ice creams. That said, Big Daddy's is better than 95% of ice creams. In particular, the texture is excellent, and the flavors I tried avoid the common pitfalls of being too saccharine or having an obnoxious amount of mix-ins. My favorite flavor was the Key Lime Pie (which is not listed on the menu, so I assume it's limited). The lime flavor was pleasant, combined with little specks of graham cracker throughout, and the white chocolate chips added some satisfying texture.

Price-wise, Big Daddy's receives a 5/5. It's not "cheap," but it's also not exorbitant either, and it’s comparable to the other local ice cream spots. Regardless, what elevates Big Daddy’s is the value–a small here gives you a sizeable amount of ice cream (and presumably every other size contains more than expected). Further, the service was exceptional. Fortunately, there was no line when I went, but even so, I had just received my change by the time my ice cream was ready. We visited the Kennebunkport Big Daddy's location last night, 6/15/25, just as they were closing. The two young women working there were very friendly and welcoming. I told them I was craving a malted Frappe, but couldn't decide on flavors. I gave them free rein to come up with something creative. They worked as a great team. One of them worked her flavor knowledge magic combining different flavors, and the other mixed it all up with the frappe mixer. I don't know exactly what was in it. I believe I heard her mention cookie dough, and chocolate caramel truffle. Maybe something else as well. The final concoction was by far the best I've had. Absolutely Fantastically DELICIOUS!!! We were at the KBPT Big Daddy’s yesterday and got a small dish raspberry sorbet and a small dish sundae. Delicious as per usual and obviously hand crafted. But the total, which was $22.94, and included a tip for the nice young people who work there and admittedly ME sales tax, was surprising.

We love Big Daddy’s for their flavors, quality and people. We have always gone there as we’re local and bring our guests. It’s been a regular stop for years in the summer & we always try to support local biz in KBK and KBPT, as well as Wells and Ogunquit. Just too expensive.
