Without knowing what to expect, my family went to Serenity Moon Tea to explore and try a few teas.

The owner was gracious. It was a high traffic Saturday, but she served everyone who came in personally.

The atmosphere was very relaxed. Numerous repeat customers stopped by for refills of their favorites, and some just wanted bubble tea. On Sundays and Mondays, you can book tea parties and tastings at a traditional table. Thus I believe that without booking in advance, you should plan to go Tuesday through Saturday.

We got much the same experience. Having smelled from sample tins the many varieties available, ranging across red, white, green, oolong, pu'er, black, and herbal varieties, we settled on a few of interest and sat near the window at the tasting table, along with another pair who had chosen their varieties. The owner brewed tea for us and talked a lot about her preferred methods for doing so. For someone like me who is new to the scene, this was fun and educational. We had red, black, green, and oolong teas in small cups and discussed how they changed through repeated brews.

Our tasting was often interrupted due to the volume of customers on Saturday. The owner recommended coming during the week when it was less busy. I recommend that if you are interested in this aspect of the shop, you have an open block of time and let it play out slowly. Even though it took a while, we were really happy we waited and got the rich experience. If you want to do this without purchasing any tea, you can do it for $10.

There were a variety of tea sets and accessories available. I don't know if there are large differences between Japanese and Chinese materials, but this shop seems to focus on Chinese teas and accessories for Gong Fu. Compared to a video of a traditional Gong Fu tea ceremony, I noted some similarities between the tasting and the tools and preparation of the ceremony. The biggest difference was the owner's vivacious talk and education as we went.

We had a great time and look forward to another visit. We bought a small tea set, pictured here, and some new to us oolong...

I visited my brother in Kent for a couple weeks and we both decided to check out this place as we were coming out of Safeway. I actually thought it was just gonna be a regular bubble tea place, but boy was I wrong-and I'm glad I was. Upon entering, the owner, Mako, was tending to some people at her counter but was very polite and accommodated my brother and I when she had the chance. Instead of grabbing a bubble tea or a tea latte like I intended, I decided to just have a hot cup of organic green jasmine and it was one of the best decisions I've made upon arriving in Kent! I have only seen one other employee at Xiu Xian, I believe her name is Jewel. Like Mako, she is VERY helpful and accommodating, and she has a great laid-back vibe. A couple weeks later before I left to go back home, we did a tea tasting session, as Mako had been politely urging us to do during our last few visits. This lady is so nice and informative, she taught us the history of green tea and we tasted 3 of her best selections. Although tea tastings are free, you are required to pay $10 worth of tea or any other drinks and it was only right that we left with at least $40 worth of stuff! I definitely recommend this place for tea lovers, even if you are new to tea. The owner is a down-to-earth, genuine person and her tea is divine! This is definitely the place I will always look forward to coming to...

My partner and I visited this shop on a whim after lunch one day. We saw the teas and instantly had an inclination to go inside. Upon entering we were greeted with the warmest smile by the owner at the counter. We looked around and got a couple of her in house mixes. My partner and I got super excited to have a tea shop down the street from our home. We went home and had the delicious teas. Yesterday we went back with the intention to get some more tea and possibly do a tea tasting. So we grabbed 3 different kinds of teas to taste. We sat at the counter with her for around 30 minutes as she engaged us in a world of knowledge revolved around Tea. We left knowing a lot more about tea than when we initially walked through the door. We left the shop super pleased with our purchases and the tea tasting experience. We love supporting small businesses so if you’re in the market to support a minority woman owned business please make sure to stop by and support Serenity Moon! Her prices are very affordable and her products are high quality! She also sells warm/cold drinks! We got two of the lavender/jasmine latte’s. Its one of the most delicious drinks I’ve ever had.

P.S if you go for a tasting the owner suggested that the 1-4pm window is...

I drove by Serenity Moon Tea on my way to drop off and pick up my car after it had some work done and was eager to check it out! Mako (owner) was so kind, welcoming, and informative. It was an absolute joy to hang out with her and talk about tea and life! She was able to find me a match for another tea that I'd been looking for (Golden Monkey) as well as some great recommendations for teas that I'd not had yet. The tea will cost you 12-24.00 per 40g bag of tea depending on grade and informal tastings are available during regular hours Weds-Sat, but as Mako is the only person there, she will have to step away to assist any incoming clients. If you want a more in depth tasting experience, you can book a private tea tasting for small groups of five of less people Sun-Tues. Serenity Moon Tea is definitely worth a visit if you're in the Kent area and need to purchase or restock on loose leaf tea. Mako also has a small kitchen to make bubble tea and tea lattes upon request. I purchased a Jasmine tea latte (so good!) 40g of Decaf Apple Cinnamon Red Tea, 40g of Golden Dragon Pearl Black Tea, and 40g of Princess Jade Organic Jasmine Tea. Will update once the tea has been made!

We discovered Serenity Moon Tea purely by serendipity when having lunch elsewhere. Once entering the shop, we were overcome by the variety of teas offered by the store, as well as the ability for the average customer to peruse the blends and smell them without interference or pressure to buy. Once selecting two varieties with intent to purchase, the shop owner, Mako, asked if we'd ever visited the shop previously. We admitted that we had not. Well, we were invited to sit at the end of the tea bar where we were given a very thorough and intriguing education on tea - from the plants to what constitutes white, green or black teas, to steeping and more. She was very knowledgeable in the entire process and knew her business well! Gregarious and quite affable, we enjoyed sampling several teas and indulging in the discussion which flowed freely between ourselves and Mako. We highly recommend visiting Serenity Moon Tea to anyone, whether seeking a wide range of loose teas or simply engaging in conversation with the shop owner. We came away with a better understanding and appreciation of tea, and also of Mako who made an outstanding hostess.
