3 of us ate at what I would describe as cute hole in the wall Mexican restaurant. The waiter was on point, efficient..maybe too efficient [clearing b4 all of us a re done] But he was the only person serving, so I get it. Decor was cosy, Big TVs however had car shows on - The owner remodels and refits muscle cars, so that explains a LOT! Very interesting chap!
The waiter was personable and funny. We had a chance to chat to the owner after dinner who I had incidentally run into at HEB earlier in the day. My son had Enchiladas that were cooked just right, firm and cheesy with good refried beans. My wife had a special plate & the puffy tortillas were a hit for her [ I forget what the dish was to be honest.]. I had the mini taco beef fajita. very good [ pretty flavourful, but as they were mini tacos the meat is cut rather small, so you miss that char that gives Fajita meat its zing flavour. I added their excellent spicy, tomato-ey salsa to them. The highlight of my dish was the Charro beans. Perfect balance of flavours, bacon, beans spice. Excellent. Only down side was margaritas were using a mix :( . Seems that is a thing in Kerrville. We have been eating at one new MX place a week since moved here, yet to find hand made - Lime Juice & Simple Syrup + Tequila version yet.
Good selection of Mexican and domestic beers however. We will be back. Rumour has it Bohemia beer will be in stock in...
Read moreThis was our first time coming to El Sol and it was an absolute disappointment!! I wanted to try it because of all the good reviews and tasty looking photos but it's a down right joke! Inside is very small and cramped, we had to change tables because the chairs were up against the wall and we couldn't scoot back.
Our server was very soft spoken so it was hard to hear him and the chips he gave us were burnt and way too crunchy. I couldn't believe he thought that was acceptable to give us. I wanted to order the taco salad but was afraid the shell would be burnt so my husband and I both ordered the number 13's, which were the street tacos- with beef.
The meal came with beans that were soaked in some weird oil and mostly fat- the most horrible beans I've EVER tasted! There is a total of 4 street tacos and I could only eat two because the meat was too hard to chew and everything had no flavor whatsoever. My husband wanted some shredded cheese with his meal and he was given two teaspoons of cheese and they charged us almost $3 for it- RIDICULOUS!!
Our meal was way too expensive for not being able to eat it and with everything having zero flavor. We will never come in to this establishment ever again because honestly, there are tons of other Mexican restaurants with authentic...
Read moreWe stopped at this quaint restaurant based on very good reviews, and it was as good as indicated in the reviews. This place is on a whole different level as a total dining experience. It is very clean, well laid out, with very attractive decor. The service was very attentive, even refilling the fresh-made Lemonade and fresh-made Horchata we had, without having to be asked. Both drinks were great, and I’ve never had better Horchata. I had grilled tilapia and shrimp, with a salad and fries. It had two large tilapia filets and six pieces of shrimp. The seasoning on both was flavorful and the tilapia was nice and flaky. My wife had cheese enchiladas, rice & beans. She said the enchiladas were the best she’s had in a long time. The main difference between this place and other good Mexican restaurants is that it seems like everything here is made fresh here. The salsa and chips are made fresh. The guacamole came in a large bowl and was as good as it gets, and the same for the pico de gallo; made with all fresh ingredients, served in a large bowl, and was delicious. We will definitely make El Sol a regular...
