El Habanero Cafe Cubano — Restaurant in Key West

Apart from a fantastic Cuban breakfast, my wife and I want to share a most uplifting experience at the restaurant. My wife upon leaving, forgot her purse at the restaurant...and totally forgot about it on our drive back from Key West to Miami. After driving out an hour and half, we realized that the purse was missing. So we called the restaurant and spoke to the associate, Michael, who confirmed that he had the purse and was safe with him. Since driving back was another 90 minutes and his restaurant was closing in 30 minutes, he took extra effort to leave it with with the shop next door with clear instructions to return it to us on our arrival. Later today, we returned to 5 Guys burger next door and picked up the purse, thanks to the timely, thoughtful help from Michael. This young man showed immense character and thinking on his feet, and my wife and I am very grateful for this. Dear Michael, please accept our sincere thanks!...

A newcomer and placed in a strip mall but I can see this spot becoming a staple.

Service is friendly and warm, even during a lunch rush which is filled with locals on their lunch breaks. Good sign when you see a line of work people gathered around one spot.

Atmosphere is authentic, not necessarily catering to the tourist ideal but not in any way unwelcoming. Food is reasonably priced by key west standards and portions are good and filling. Coffee is strong and good, staff seem like family and are very courteous.

And the food is GOOD. I have had their Cuban mix, a breakfast sandwich and the ropa vieja lunch plate. The ropa vieja is some of the best that didn't come out of my grandma's kitchen. The sandwiches are also very good.

My family and I stopped in to taste some real Cuban food. The place was busy, Franco was working like crazy to keep up. The universal rule is people don't wait for garbage. We ordered a little of everything. Our food arrived quickly and every order was AMAZING. The authentic Cuban sandwich was the best I've ever had. The French toast had some unique ingredients that might have been meth because we were all instantly addicted. The sweet plantains were outstanding, the Cuban tamale with onions and pork is a perfect combination and the churros beat Disney in quality and quantity at 1 millionth the price!
