What a great place to stop for a bite to eat and a drink while you walk Duval! It seems like it's always busy, but there were also always seats. My wife and I liked the Conch fritters and Mahi Mahi (I believe on the menu it's the Dolphin Fingers?) so much that we brought the kids back to try them.
The trip with the kids is the primary cause for my review. We already enjoyed the restaurant, but we brough the kids back and the place was PACKED. They got us seated right away and our server, Chris, was absolutely on top of it. We weren't there for a big meal and we know how, as a server in a tip-driven industry, small tables can sometimes be a downer on your evening. If he felt that way, Chris didn't show it in the least. He was kind, funny, and prompt. We had hoped to let the kids try the pina coladas (virgin, of course), but Chris let us know that the pina colada is already mixed well in advance, so there's nothing to do about that. He helped us find a suitable alternative and when we ordered mahi to share, the portion we received was much more generous than when only my wife and I came. I can only assume he went out of his way to make sure we all had enough.
Flying Monkeys is a delight and Chris is an exceptional member of their team. I hope they see this review so that he gets the praise he deserves. Thanks Chris and Flying Monkeys for being a special stop on our trip!
To anyone reading the review, have the mahi and a pina colada, it's the best we had on the island! Even though they seem to always be busy, the noise was never at an uncomfortable level in my experience and I could always hear everyone at my table clearly despite being a little...
Read moreWhile taking a bike day in Key West we chose to stop this restaurant to have lunch. The place was very busy but we still got a no waiting time. Great service from or waitress, I got the Fish taco rice and black beans and my husband chose the fried grouper and fried. The taco fisg was huge. I had to get a carry out for the 2nd one. Not so happy about the black beans and rice. Being at Key West I thought these beans would have a more cuban taste Which did not as I imagine…. Was more like a Mexican style which makes more sense since is taco meal. Also a rain came buy for quiet a while and tarp’s are pretty worn out and most of tables inside got soaked. My husband had to move his chair and dish plate, but that wont stop my desire to come back again. Food is amazing. And so unique watching chickens and roosters around each of these restaurants...
Read moreReally hesitant to write this because maybe she was having a bad day, but we have been coming here every year to enjoy the frozen drinks and have always enjoyed the staff. This past Thursday was extremely different. Our first round was fine. Upon return, we waited at the window for an extended amount of time while being completely ignored, on purpose I might add. Then when a female approached, she made a comment about how we were horrible tippers and went on a rant about how that's how she makes her living. I can't speak for the rest of my party, but my bill was $10 and I tipped $2.... That's 20% for literally pulling the nozzle on a machine and filling up my cup. It's not like a cocktail that has to be mixed, they are pre-made...and you want more than 20%? I couldn't believe the down right rudeness. So make sure you tip more than 20% or expect to be...
