I did this tour many years ago and it was so much better before. Dawn is fairly new to doing the tour and she was doing a good job, and I think she will get better as she does it more.
The stories were good, the last stop before the final stop at the Hard Rock was not very interesting- aside from the creepy looking doctor who experimented on his patients... not really a ghost story. Dr. Mudd being housed there was interesting if you knew who he was. I am unclear if he died in that house or if he did get moved to the prison. There are much better places and stories than this.
The Hemingway House and Captain Tony's are two famously haunted spots, and these are left off the tour. These are much more interesting spots to talk about- a stop in front of the Hard Rock to tell the story of Robert Curry would be better than climbing all the stairs even though it was nice to sit down and cool off, I would rather had spent that time on at least one of the other two places known to be haunted. Dawn said there was no Hemingway ghost at the house, but legend has it that he has been seen there.
One last thing and I am providing this review to be helpful... the Calusa and the Seminole did not fight a war in Key West. The Calusa were long gone before the Seminoles formed. The Seminoles were not an ancient tribe- they consisted of run aways from other tribes, and some runaway slaves. The word Seminole actually means "runaway" or "outcast." The Calusa did use parts of the island as a communal graveyard- some say it was due to Indian wars, which is possible but not likely. Anyone who knows Florida history will catch this.
I would recommend going- there are different guides and different experiences to be had. I did catch a handful of orbs!! It seemed to be an active night- and a full moon!
Bring water- go p before going to the meet up spot- there is no potty break. Show up on time and at the...
Read moreTried to take this tour for my anniversary. We were very excited for the experience and the history lesson that comes with it. Our tour guide, Susan, packed over 20 tour participants into a small second floor room in the Hard Rock Cafe for the first stop, ignoring social distance protocols and with several tour participants removing their masks. We chose to wait outside the room, and when we voiced our concerns after the stop we were told it was the only indoor location on the tour, and we agreed to continue on. We didn't get the chance. She never stopped to check if her entire group was with her, and must have turned off of duval without us.
I know managing these tours in the age of covid must be incredibly difficult, but losing tour participants before the second stop is a sure sign your groups...
Read moreI have been on several ghost tours and this was by far my favorite. Ask for Southernmost Ted; he is AMAZING! He gave us an excellent historical account of the classic Key West ghost stories, but went a step further by introducing the group to the act of ghost hunting. I have personally taken ghost tours in some of the most haunted and historical places in the US (Williamsburg, VA; New Orleans, LA; Monticello, FL), but this was the first time I felt truly engaged. Southernmost Ted allows guests to be more than just spectators; he allows his group to experience through active participation. I will be a repeat...
