Jose's Latin Food — Restaurant in Key West

Horrible service food overpriced. First time I went there.Waitress kept complaining that she was to get up to.Get me something to drink out of the fridge because they wouldn't even come and check up on my table. Second time I went order a drink.Orange was betsir.I ask for no ice on my drink.They gave me one that was already refrigerated with water down.Melted ice inside of it. Then I asked for what other options they had, Waitress was very rude. And when I Told her that I ordered one without ice. She gave me a face in a smart light. You're gonna get it how we serve it so I went back. And wanted my money back. The owner was telling me. Did they already serve the drink? Money doesn't mean a thing to me. So I just told him keep the money and you lose a customer. One of the worst experiences i've had in key west in the food industry. They have no competition for Nicaraguan cuisine.So they want to treat customers the way they want An overcharge on a large drink. That is not fresh. With bitter oranges. Key West is deficient in good, authentic Latin American food outside of our wealth of Cuban fare.

We have several food carts that attempt an "elevated" version of the Mexican/Central American cuisine, and they do great work. But it's not the same as the real thing.

Jose's approaches that ideal: the menu isn't complicated, the ingredients are traditional, the environment is unpretentious.

While I haven't yet been able to sample the complete menu, what I have eaten had been consistently faithful to a classic taqueria experience. I came as not a huge fan of plantains but now I crave them. Their house hot sauce might be the best in the city, a perfect blend of flavor and heat.

I tend to avoid reviewing negative or mediocre places and focus on the best, and Jose's is among the best for locals...

I have lived in Key West for 18 years and stopped here with my son for something new, since we have eaten our way all around the island and have grown tired of the usual. I can honestly say this was the worst place I have ever eaten on this island, and the most expensive. My son had a basic quesadilla and I had fajitas. We each got a soda. Cost me $39 PLUS TIP. I have never paid so much for so little in my entire time on this island. The steak in both was dried out and extremely tough. We could barely chew it. There was nothing wrong with the service so she was tipped 20%. PROFOUNDLY NOT WORTH THE $47 IT ENDED UP COSTING ME FOR A QUICK BITE...
