I was really hoping to have the best experience here because of the fun and history alone, but unfortunately, the service we received from one server really brought the vibe down. Our first waitress was fantastic- she had a great attitude, was efficient, and quick. However, once we were passed to another server, the experience went downhill. She seemed easily overwhelmed, and while I usually give a lot of grace as a former server myself, this was disappointing.
I ordered three drinks in total during our visit:
1st drink– Paloma (from the first server): received quickly.
2nd drink– Mojito (from the new server): never arrived, so my husband went to the bar and ordered one directly, which he received right away.
3rd drink– Mojito (from the new server): received without issue.
The real issue came with the bill. While I had three drinks, only two should have been on the check, since we had already paid for the first mojito at the bar (and had the receipt). When I politely asked for the correction, the server questioned me with, “Didn’t you have three drinks?” I had to show her the bar receipt and explain that the second drink I ordered from her never arrived. She did remove the charge, but when she returned, she again stated that she “knew” I had three drinks. This was frustrating because I never denied that- I only clarified that I never received the second one at the table. I was quite surprised she said that to me.
I want to be clear that this wasn’t about the $12.50- I wasn’t trying to get out of paying for a drink, and we had already ordered plenty of other food and drinks for the table. It was simply about being charged for something I never received.
That being said, I would still go back. The food and drinks were good, the band was great, and I enjoyed the history of the bar. I just wouldn't sit with the...
Read moreOn 4th of July six of us went in to this establishment to have a drink and something to eat. We sat down ordered drinks and our waitress took our food order one by one. Five minutes after we ordered food the security came over ( who saw us all along since we were sitting next to the door) and told us that my two nieces can’t stay after 10 pm because they are under 21 years old….We told him we just ordered food, he said we can stay but my nieces has to go. We said ok then cancel our food order… our waitress said no we can’t because that’s stealing and she went to get our check and threw it on our table , WITH THE FOOD ORDER THAT HAS NOT BEEN SERVED YET!!!! Of course at this point we all upset and arguing with security and asking them to call the Manager…. our waitress came back and I’ve asked her why did you not inform us before you took the order from my nieces that they can not stay to eat it? She said and I quote “ Welcome to America “ and she turned and laughed at me after I told her I live here and I AM an American citizen… but regardless, Is this how you think of visitors? I’ve told my husband to pay our drink portion and let’s go.. as we walking out finally Chris the manager is coming out with us and we explained what happened how we were treated and the insults and disrespect from his staff!! Make no mistake, we had no problem with the rules, We just wish we were informed of it before we ordered the food, not afterwords just as a matter of fact! Who would stay with half of their family to eat and the rest of them thrown out? Chris! Thank you for your understanding and to smooth things out! You’re security staff and this waitress of yours have a lot to learn from you! The poor rating is...
Read moreI've been to Key West four times, and I always look forward to going to Sloppy Joes. However, my daughter and I were there on Oct. 28, and we were looking forward to watching the Monday night football game there. We were at the table next to the stage, watching the game and be-bopping to the band that was currently playing. Mind you, our table wasn't even facing the stage, but facing the TV in the corner, and we weren't causing any kind of disturbance by any stretch of the imagination, unless you include singing along to the songs being played. It was about 5 minutes into the third quarter when a server just arbitrarily switched this TV to the baseball game! It was quite obvious that we were actively watching the game! Our server knew we were there for the game. By this time, Sloppy Joe's was pretty packed and getting ready for some kind of dancing. When I went to the bar and asked why it was changed, I was told, "We put the World Series on, but this TV (by the bar) has the football game on." There was no place to sit!!! Why didn't they turn the baseball game on at the TV by the bar instead of changing the one THAT WAS BEING WATCHED??? I think it was extremely rude and uncalled for. Yes, the food is great, but this experience put a bad taste in my mouth for this establishment. When in Key West, we stick only to Sloppy Joes. Next time we are in Key West, we'll probably try some other establishments due to this. Very...
