Oh my goodness. I just have to brag about how awesome this place is! It all started with my initial phone call. I called a few bakeries nearby to get information about whether or not they did gender reveal cakes and how the process actually worked. A few places were very short with me and way out of price for what I was looking for. BUT, when I called Hollywood Baked Goods, I got the pleasure of talking to Holly (the owner). You guys, she was SO patient with me and answered all of my questions. I got so much useful information from her and felt so confident that this was who I wanted to use for my family's special moment. I easily placed the order online following Holly's directions that she gave to me over the phone. The cake was ready very quickly and exactly when I needed it by (I couldn't wait one more day to know the gender of my second baby!!) She let me know when it was time for me to pick it up, so my son and I swung by to grab it. We spoke to Chelsea when we picked up the cake and she was so personable and friendly and made us even more excited to finally figure out the reveal. They both did such a wonderful job at keeping everything a secret--one thing I was super nervous about! My husband, son, and I did the reveal and it was such a special moment! We cut open the cake and there it was... blue frosting! We are so excited to be having another little boy running around the house! :) It was crazy timing, but about 10 minutes after we recorded our reveal, we got an email from Holly just checking in to see how everything went (it's like she knew we just did it!) I loved the whole experience from beginning to end! The cake was moist and delicious--ABSOLUTELY perfect! We have been enjoying it for a couple of days now and reliving that special moment with every bite. I can't recommend this place enough. They truly made our gender reveal for our second baby so very special and I can't thank them enough!! We will definitely be ordering more cakes from them in the future for birthdays and other...
Read moreI honestly don’t understand all the five-star reviews for Hollywood Baked Goods. My experience was very disappointing, especially considering the staff friendliness and the hype.
This was my first time ordering and I was really looking forward to it after reading so many positive reviews about the taste. I called them to get help with the planning and to ask a simple question about which filling would go best with red velvet. The response was surprisingly rude. They seemed in a rush and said everything is listed on the website. I get that a lot of details are available online and that’s great, but it would have been nice to spend even five minutes answering a few questions. I would rate their customer service and friendliness 1 out of 5.
Now coming to the look of the cake — I will say it looked aesthetic and well-decorated. Only negative is the website mentions that the butterflies are made from wafer paper and technically edible, though not recommended to eat. But the ones we got didn’t even look or feel like wafer paper. They looked like regular paper decorations, which was disappointing. I’d give 4 out of 5 for the design and presentation.
But the taste… was a huge letdown. I followed the storage and serving instructions exactly, but the cake still tasted off. It wasn’t spongy at all, it was overly sweet, and the flavors felt completely unbalanced. My local bakery sells cakes for less than a quarter of the price HBG charged and they taste way better. This just did not feel like a high-quality or thoughtfully made cake.
I’ve ordered custom cakes before from other places that cost the same and not only do they taste amazing, they also include little touches like adding the name on the cake and board without extra effort. This cake did not deliver on value or quality. Overall, I’d give 0 out of 5 for taste and flavor.
Definitely not something I’d order again...
