Subway is ok, Penn Station is better, but omg I’ve found my heaven for sandwiches and I’m not sure I can go anywhere else again.
I didn’t think it mattered much if bread was “fresh baked” but really was frozen vs made from scratch or whatever. This place makes their own bread right there from scratch. We saw the lady doing it in front of us, hand kneading that dough. It was so pillowy soft I wanted to go jump in it. The taste of the bread haunts me now and I have to have more.
Ok, now about the rest. It was a bit of a wait to get our food after ordering, but I like that I can see in the kitchen so I could see they were all working hard on making food. The seats looked empty but it was a beehive of busy there, lots of carry out orders! We’ve had far worse waits in Kokomo these days to be honest.
The food was hot and cheese was gooey. I had the chicken parm sandwich - sorry “Grinder” - and it had nice chunks of chicken, and the whole thing was HUGE! I looked up Penn Station and I was surprised their biggest sandwich is 12” long (subway too) and it costs more than this, and this was a monster 16”!!!! And cost less!!! With scratch made fresh bread on top of all that! Yeah, I’m freakin out a little over a sandwich - uh I mean GRINDER - but I’m a super fan now of Mancino’s, that’s all I can say!!! And the breadstick…so good but I took most of it home because it was so much.
Next time, I want to try a stuffed breadstick and I might order a half Grinder next time, because it was a lot but hey I admit I ate all of it, cause it was just that good. If I do get a half, I’m getting that cookie that was calling my name in the basket on the counter. 😋😋😋😋😋😋
Oh one last thing… my coworker eats gluten-free and his bread looked almost as amazing as mine somehow!! Gluten free usually looks like tiny flat garbage bread to me. But his was fluffy and looked actually good! And he devoured it so I didn’t get a pic. I’m still not eating gluten free, but for my friends who do, this is...
Read moreToday on May 3rd at 8:50pm I came into the Mancinos resturaunt here in Kokomo to order food and dine in with myself my wife and my two kids. As we were ordering there was a lady that was on the line preparing food. At this time she was waiting on an order to start and as she was waiting she was standing leaned over on the line with her gloves on, holding the side of her face with her other hand clenched in a fist under her chin. Because she had gloves on touching her face my wife who is pregnant made a comment to me when we walked to the drink station to fill our cups up, about how she Hope's she changes her gloves because she was touching all over her face. So within that few seconds I slid back over and watched her walk from the counter where she had walked up to, to handle a receipt, gloves still on. Then watched her walk back to the freezer to get dough out for a pizza then started the order. My wife made a comment to the second lady who was working the register and asked her to have the lady on the line change her gloves. The lady on the register said to my wife. Yes she already did. I know for a fact that she didn't because I watched her the entire time she was back there. Never changed...
Read moreUpdate Still one of my favorite places for gluten free takeout. Food, prices, and service is still great! Worth the drive from Fort Wayne!
If you have to eat gluten-free, then you know how difficult eating away from home truly is. Gluten-free options from typical fast food restaurants are either nonexistent or ridiculously-limited and expensive. Gluten-free menu items tend to be subpar with regard to taste, texture, and portion size.
Every once in awhile a business actually makes an effort to provide gluten-free consumers with tasty and affordable options. I was so impressed with the number of sandwiches and pizzas that could be made gluten-free at Mancinos in Kokomo. When I looked up the menu online, I was compelled to order just because there were so many items!
I ordered the steak grinder and it was freaking fantastic! I only ate half of my sandwich, but I figured it wouldn’t be very good later, as many gluten-free products aren’t great even a few hours later. Well, I was impressed when ate the other half of my sandwich, even cold it was delicious.
Thank you, Mancinos of Kokomo, Indiana...you made my day! I will be...
