Oh Texican, how you have started to disappoint me. This used to be the go to place for good Mexican food in the city of Kyle where is a Mexican joint on every street corner. We had started ordering food online, which was way easy and convenient. On the way back from running errands, my oldest son and I opted for Texican and I placed the order online. He had texted me that he wanted the El Paso Enchiladas with chicken. They tell me the food will take 60 minutes, which is not a problem because we were an out out.
I roll up to pick up my order. I stand over by the area where food is usually picked up. I am not sure if there girl just was not paying attention, or she chose to ignore me. When she finally turns and we made eye contact, I tell her I am here for a pick up order. She hand me my food and I head home.
I get home and I was impressed they separated the taco so it did not get soggy. The rice and beans were amazing. They did give complimentary chips and salsa, which we are big fans of. I did notice that the bag of chips is half the size it normally is, but you still got a full sized salsa. They also screwed my kids order up and gave us some smothered chicken with onions and mushrooms with rice. I immediately call and they are apologetic. I was told they would have it fixed in 5 minutes. I hop back in my car, head up there.
I roll up and have to explain to the girl again that I am missing a El Paso enchiladas. The girl goes, "oh." and does nothing. The other young girl comes from the back with it already bagged up. I had joked to her that they must have a chip shortage because the chips were a little light. She tells me that the owner said to start rationing the chips that go in the go to bags. To the owner, STOP DOING THAT. Why give a full size salsa and a bag of chips that look like the bag has been raided before it even got to my bag? I would be happy to pay an extra $1 or $2 for a full bag of chips. Yes, chips are complementary and many places do not even offer them with go to items. That is the whole reason why we come to Texican because the chips and salsa and you can get them to go.
I know this place is hiring and I am sure the young girls working the front are all new because it seemed like only one knew what was going on. The food was great, other than the minor hiccup with my to go order. I am hoping this place will be better the next...

**2nd Review Mid August - We went back a week ago to eat at Texican Cafe in Kyle Texas & asked to sit in Halle’s section because she is AMAZING!!! Again excellent food & service from all the staff! It’s amazing to watch everyone work together even when it’s super duper busy at Texican Cafe. Halle brought over the manager GASPAR & introduced us to him. GASPAR is such a “hands on” manager. He was helping out all the staff & that was great to see. Gaspar really takes pride in this restaurant & all that goes on. Gaspar brought us this rum cake & OMG it is soooo GOOD! It’s our new favorite place to eat! Thank you to everyone at Texican Cafe & especially to HALLE & GASPAR for such amazing service! We’ll see you again soon! ...
Read moreMy son and his family live in Kyle and when we go to visit this is our place to go. I don’t know what the deal was on Saturday but that was the worst service and taste of food we have ever had. My spinach in my enchiladas had NO taste whatsoever. I ate half of them and tried to doctor them up with other ingredients but it didn’t help. I had tried to ask the server if she had tried them and if she could give me feedback and she said no. I wanted to try something different this time. I asked her for recommendations and she had none. My daughter ordered a dish that had a steak on it and she asked her twice to have it cooked well done and it came out medium rare. The server brought it back and it was cooked more but had NO taste or seasoning whatsoever. She came back and asked if it was ok and my daughter told her no it wasn’t and she said “oh I’m sorry” and my daughter then asked can you just bring me something else and proceeded to order the tacos al carbon, so the server brought it out within five minutes “no exaggeration” and all they did was cut some of that previous meat and stick it in a tortilla. It taste exactly the same as that steak did!!!!! So my daughter sat there and still wasn’t eating her dinner and a guy walks up to the table and and asked how things were going. We then asked him if he was a manager and he said “kinda” and we proceeded to let him know what had occurred. We asked if there was a new cook or was the recipe changed and he starts just rambling on about how it’s the owners recipe and grasping for an explanation. We have been to this place a half a dozen times this past six months and never have we experienced the lack of seasoning like this, something was definitely different!!! He actually is the one that refilled our sauce, drinks and chips because our server didn’t and we very much appreciated that he caught a lot of her slack. We understand that these things happen and she still made a good tip but I don’t know that we will be back. I know most places don’t care if a patron returns these days but I did want to...
