I was excited when I saw the sign advertising the existance of a donut shop here in Lafayette. I live in Lafayette, drive by where this business is located almost every day, and shop at a few businesses near this one. However I was not aware that this business existed at all until recently when they added signage to (presumably) make people aware of their existance. However when I went to look online at their menu, flavors, what makes them special, etc, I was very surprised (and disappointed) to find that they have no website. When you try to view their website you are simply routed to their Facebook page. Upon looking at the age of their reviews it appears as though they have been open for approximately 10 months (at the time of this post) and even make reference to a website that is unpublished in at least one of their review responses. Yet in all that time haven't either created, or hired someone to create a website. I find this fact to be absolutely unfathomable in today's age of online shopping, and delivery. Also quite disappointing for someone who likes to check businesses out online before wasting time to walk into a shop that doesn't interest me. Something I saw that put me off was the long, and in some cases argumentative replies to the reviews that weren't positive. I even saw a reply where the owner (presumably, as being the one who replies to reviews) referenced a customers other social media posts, as if investigating the customer. I've got to say I've never seen this approach, but we're all entitled to voice our opinion. You've got to understand, in any business, not every customer is going to be satisfied. Arguing with customers over their opinion is rarely good business practice, in my opinion.
As far as their product, we did stop in Sunday morning and purchased a dozen donuts. The total was just over $27 (before tip) which is pricey for donuts, however if the product is exceptional I don't mind paying for quality. I found their donuts to be very light and fluffy for cake donuts, however the donut itself wasn't very flavorful. I found most of the flavor to come from the icing that was on top of the donut. The other predominant flavor I got was the oil from their fryer(s). In terms of texture however, I have to say that these are the best cake donuts, in terms of texture, that I've had from the area. We'll give them another shot at some point in the near future to see if the heavy oil flavor was some type of one off, but as of now I'm not 100% sold on...
Read moreI love this place and the family that runs the donut shop. I'd like to address a few negative reviews I saw first (this is just my opinion though). Someone said they were "fake cake donuts." Not even sure what that means, but the donuts are fantastic! I love that they are actually not that big because I can eat one without getting a food coma or filling crappy later.
The donuts are the perfect size for a nice treat! I love that!
Someone mentioned they were too greasy, but I would disagree. I can't really eat overly fried foods without getting sick to my stomach and I've never had that issue at Nok's Donuts. At 47, at the time of this writing, I have to take a digestive enzyme and an antacid to eat any thing fried. For some reason, these donuts never mess with my stomach. I love that about them! Of course sometimes people can have an off time and maybe they happened to get some donuts that were greasy, but that's never been my experience.
Someone complained about the price and compared them to dunkin donuts and king soopers, but these donuts are way better, made with better ingredients, are super fresh, and a small family run business. Also, their prices are posted and donuts are a treat anyways. The icing is made from scratch with real ingredients, which is naturally going to cost more for the high quality. I'm a cheap and still have no problem paying for them they're so good!
I saw someone complain about the size of the store and was like, "Really?" That's completely out of their hands. Besides the setup of the mall is so spacious that there is more than adequate space available for people to sit and eat and to accommodate everyone from one person to families to groups.
Finally, the family is ace in my book! You'll probably not find nicer people then them.
I've tasted the different donut styles and like them all! Although I had a chocolate cruller yesterday that was amazing as well!
This place is for everyone from single person to families and groups! You honestly won't find a better donut in Boulder county, but don't take my word for it. Give them a go for yourself!
Photos of the pineapple, strawberry and then the raspberry donut. I'm looking forward to trying the...
Read moreThe woman who makes the donuts is so nice. I had high expectations for these donuts. First, these may have quality ingredients, but they are still sugary donuts and nothing about them is upscale or special. The donut itself it a too sweet version of white bread and I doubt in a taste test I would discern it from any other commercial donut.
But the icing flavors are scrumptious, amazing and unique...that's what all these great reviews are about. You basically get a piece of cake smathered in a glob of tasty icing. But the icing still doesn't hide the meh batter and the not so great donut. Cool flavors..but I don't want a glob of icing. If I want something sweet, I'll go a real bakery next time for a great pastry as a few spoons of great tasting creative flavored sugar isn’t enough to eat these sweets. Wonderful customer service. No idea why other reviewers complaining about the price..basically an average slice of cake shaped as a donut for $2.50 to $3 is a good price. I'm glad I tried them but will not...
