Unreal what happened to us tonight. Just had the worst service ever at this restaurant. Our server was beyond rude, extremely slow and inefficient, and forgetful. When we get to the restaurant, my grandma asked for a bucket of beer. The waiter said he didn’t know the cost so he will find out and let us know. Ten minutes later, he still isn’t back and he’s standing chit chatting with the hostess. Grandma goes up to the server and let him know to forget about the bucket, just bring her a beer. He finally bring her the beer but didn’t bring my drink. My grandmas friend arrives and orders a drink, silverware, salsa, and napkins. He brought the drinks then the salsa but did not bring the silverware or napkins. When our food came, my grandmas friend asked the food runner for napkins and silverware as he was walking away while she was asking. Another gal walked by so she asked for the silverware and napkins which she brought. The server did not come back and check on us at all during the time. We finally asked another person for the hot sauce and my grandmas friend literally had to start waving to get someone to our table. My grandma asked for drinks and to speak to the manager. He goes and grabs the hostess who is maybe a senior in high school to “pretend” to be the manager. They start laughing at us when my grandma explains what happened. She then has to ask for a discount which the “manager” said would be 25%. I asked for the General Managers information and he rattles off the phone number and said it was his uncle. My grandma again asks for our drinks. Another 10 minutes goes by and the waiter begins the check and tells us to leave. I walk up to the hostess station, again asking for the manager. They tell me they do not a manager. They then send the waiter to us and he tells us we were rude and then further proceed by asking us to leave. I have never been treated so disrespectful in my life. If you are in Lafayette, do not eat at this restaurant. Keep in mind, my grandpa literally just passed away, and we were also there celebrating my birthday. My grandma did not deserve this ridiculous treatment from this...
Read moreLafayette, Indiana is not the first, second, or twentieth place you might think of to find good Mexican food. And yet, here it is!
We went for a late lunch and the place was busy for the middle of the afternoon. That's a pretty good sign by itself. We were seated quickly and our waiter was wonderful -- friendly, available, but not intrusive, and Johnny-on-the-spot with drink refills (which was great on a hot day).
My wife had the Quesadilla Mazatlan and I had the Piña Loca Fajitas and we shared. Both were among the best Mexican meals I've ever had. The quesadilla had an absolutely perfect balance of flavors. I cannot think of a single thing that would make it better. The Piña Loca Fajitas were served, as you might guess, in a halved pineapple. It was a bit spicier than I had expected (though I'm a total wuss for anything spicy), but the added sweetness from the pineapple toned it down. Oddly, despite being served in a pineapple, the dish didn't contain any chunks of pineapple. I think I would have preferred that, but it's an incredibly minor quibble.
The low-key star of the meal was the queso. It was smoky, creamy, and smooth. The tortilla chips were quite good, too. The only disappointment was the rice and refried beans. The rice was overcooked and the beans were bland, but everything else was so good, I don't care. Nobody goes out for Mexican food just to get rice and beans.
The food we took home (which was a must because the portions were huge, even for lunch) reheated well. My wife said her quesadilla was even better the next day.
Our meal was an expensive lunch at over $40 for two people, including the tip. But frankly, it's worth it. There is plenty of parking, and I imagine the outdoor seating is quite nice when not baked in the heat of a...
Read moreSeveral weeks ago my son and I dined at this restaurant and it was a terrible experience. The faciality was not busy or overwhelmed at the time. Overall customer service was below average. My son ordered a shot of tequila, the specific brand was not available although on the menu. The server suggested an alternative tequila in place. Through our meal the server continued to as ask when he did show up if my son wanted another shot of tequila. when we received our check we noticed the shots of tequila were in fact double what he originally asked for. The server never indicated that those shots he was suggesting were in fact double the other brand. I asked to speak with the general manager on staff which he did oblige. After bringing to his attention we were never advised the suggested tequila was double what they were in fact out of. He simply shrugged and implied there was nothing he could do. You are obligated to inform your patrons of additional pricing and or price changes before suggesting alternative brands as a common courtesy. Very poor customer service coming from a supposed floor manager, I would tend to think they do this regularly to unaware customers. I would highly recommend other more customer friendly, orientated restaurants in the area.
Highly recommend: El Rodeo 140 Frontage Rd....
