Comparing to nearby Thai food, this one is actually the closest to being authentic to me. I prefer my curry to be thick and creamy. And even though it's still not as thick as I like, it wasn't bad.
Recently, this place went under some renovations, so it seems like they might need a little honing of their skills but I'm hoping that, in time, it will get better.
Some very easy fixes but being that I've only been here once, I really don't have anything to compare it to. After all, this visit could be their best day meaning there might be more mistakes, usually, but I'll have to try again to really know.
Getting a plate of rice with soy sauce splattered on it seemed like they didn't care about it. I don't think it was supposed to be like that. If it was splattered in the shape of a hula girl or a Thai sunset, I might think otherwise, but it wasn't. Dang.
Some of the bamboo shoots weren't properly cut so I got a giant string of pieces still connected that flopped all over the place trying to eat it like it was a live fish kicking for air. With little, plastic, flimsy utensils, it was annoying but my expert Thai eating skills were on point, so it was manageable. Strange, because the giant curved top ceramic bowl they served my food in seemed to clash with the miniature plastic spoon and fork I was given got utensils, lol.
You do get a free Thai tea with a purchase of 9.99 and over which is cool but with a small cup full of ice that wasn't even completely full, it was like giving a sip for free. I wonder if they poured it in my hand, I would've gotten more? Maybe. Who knows? I also wonder if I brought someone with me, would they also get a free handful of tea?
I ordered the Green forest curry which I was told is very spicy. I had to use the restroom before eating. They do not have one for guests so I had to use the one next door. It's a food court so this is normal, really, so not a big deal. As I was excusing myself to use the restroom that I was directed to, the server gave me a number to put on my table. I thought this was a little odd because I was the only one there, at the time, but ok. So, I put my number on a table outside. As I returned to my table, the server pointed at another table that had my free Thai tea. Umm, ok, why did I put my number on a table if he didn't even pay attention to it, lol. Then, the server brought me the food. He reminded me that it is really spicy and said I would probably need water. I shook my head and agreed but...he never brought water, lol... again. I don't know. Maybe I'm expecting too much but I gave him a 4 dollar tip for 11 dollars worth of food. I guess it was too much because he seemed to not really care and did a few things that made me wonder instead of make me comfortable to be there.
Overall, not bad. The flavor was good. It was spicy with a nice bite to it but not too much that I couldn't taste it. So that was good, but there really wasn't a whole lot of chicken in it for the size of the bowl. Still good, though.
I know it must be very expensive for the owners to be here and very hard to survive but some very simple things that could've made a world of difference. I don't think the things I mentioned are asking too much. Then again, maybe I just caught them on a bad day.
I will return. These things are not deal breakers for me but I am giving my review like I always do. I've been a chef for 12 years so my criticism can be harsh but I actually WANT to see this place surge and be my go-to spot for Thai food because, again, this is probably the best curry I've had...
Read moreHad to return the food, no refund offered. The yellow curry tasted like it was made with something rotten or spoiled, the cream cheese wontons tasted like spoiled milk with and odor to match.
I gave them back our full un-eaten plates (2x yellow curry + Cream cheese wontons) and was not offererd any refund for our $31 purchase. (hopfuly they use that money to buy some fresh ingredients)
When I complained both the cook and who i beleive to be the owner pretended not to speak english. eventually the guy who appeared to be the owner came to the front, stuck his finger in the curry, licked it and told me it was fine.
This place is clearly violating health codes by using spoiled ingredients and will be reported to the city hall and...
Read moreFirst of all the place is very dark and shabby where you won’t like to enter specially for food. The lady who will take the order is specifically very much rude and she is very greedy about the tip so when you will order she will provoke you to give good amount of tip, I don’t know for what...!!! Then comes the food part - I am not complaining about the quality and taste but quantity wise it is not even worth half of the price and then many of the cases what they promise as to give salads separately they won’t keep it and later they will tell those lettuce came with the entree should be treated as salads!! I mean I would suggest to avoid this place all the time and not even...
