Wow this place is delicious and adorable.
Loved that: -There were complimentary chips & salsa. Anything complimentary, I love. -Dinner entrees came with rice and beans! -7% cash back if you connect your CC with yelp's cash back program -Check in and you get a free dessert! -The friendly waiter (and possibly owner?) was super nice. -the quesadilla was sooooo delicious and worth it. At $8.85 for an appetizer, that beat my price of my entree. But TBH, this could have been an entree in itself! It was super filling and delicious.
Didn't like that -there was only 1 waiter/possible owner taking everyone's orders/bringing out everyone's food. For this reason, my boyfriend and I were in the restaurant for about an 1 and 20 minutes from start to finish since the ordering took a while and our free dessert was forgotten about until I stepped up to the register to inquire about it. I definitely didn't expect this to be so time consuming of a meal.
The food was delicious overall and even made for good leftovers. I'm definitely coming here for my authentic Mexican needs. The damage with tax and tip was ~$40 for 2 people so it was definitely more than I was expecting to spend but since there were leftovers and I am expecting 7% cash back.. I'd definitely say that the $ is well spent.
Give this mom and pop shop your time!...
Read moreWe tried takeout at Buena Vista because we love Mexican (all areas/varieties), it had a decent rating and it’s close to home. The server was really nice and the place is a cute Lakeview hole in the wall.
Unfortunately, while the portions were ok, all of our meals (including shrimp taco platter, burrito, chicken quesadilla, guacamole, chips) fell really short in flavor. So bland in fact that we had to try adding seasoning and other elements to all of the items when we got home. The tiny side portion of guacamole was overloaded with onions/tomatoes and at minimum, needed basic citrus and salt. The watery sauces were all heat and little else. I have never had to add salt to a restaurant taco until now - and still wasn't inclined to finish my meal.
We'd normally consider going back to try again but given the overall lackluster experience and the price, we didn't feel it was a good value - especially when there are so many delicious restaurant options at the same or better price point in Chicago. If you like rich Mexican spices (beyond just hot spicy), we can't recommend this place.
We really want local businesses to succeed. I would love to try again if they improve the...
Read moreBuena Vista is my absolute favorite Mexican restaurant, and I've visited many in Mexico ! It is always a pleasure to call for a delivery and speak to Benjamin. Also, it is rare these days to have a restaurant that actually has their own staff delivery. They are very accommodating if you request something special. My favorites are plain steak burritos without anything but lots of cilantro and salsa verde, and their REAL, delicious guacamole, served with plenty of homemade tortilla chips. Their great rare specialty is "Caldo de Pollo" (chicken soup), which always comes with plenty of fresh, whole chicken pieces and great vegetables that are never overcooked. A nice portion of Spanish style rice is included, with an equally nice portion of lime slices, cilantro and chopped onions. The soup is absolutely healthy, delicious and never too salty. Finally, they make their own orchata, which is a very refreshing Mexican style drink made from rice water and delicate spices. It is not only refreshing, but very healthy. The menu is diverse, but these are just my favorites. The quality is always excellent, homemade and the price is very reasonable. BUENTA VISTA IS JUST THE BEST ! Gracias to the...
