Horrible!! And that is giving them the benefit of the doubt! I was first introduced to Flaco’s Tacos years ago when me and some co-workers used to go to the location near the Chicago redline stop. I don’t believe it is there anymore, although I could be wrong, it has been some years since I was over there. Anyway, their food was always good. The customer service excellent and the drinks strong. At this Granville location the drinks are strong, but everything else lacks! I should have known it wouldn’t be good because no one was in there ordering.
I like Flacos, but didn't have a very nice time on my last visit.
I've hesitated making a comment, bc it's just the way Flacos is... But decided I should say something.
I ordered Nachos, and felt like I'd paid a premium at $16 (including +4 for meat). I was eating in, and really bothered that they were served in a to-go box. It was very awkward to eat out of, and other entrees were being served in baskets and trays. I expect nachos to go in the broiler to melt cheese and other toppings, so they'd clearly been transfered to this box. Also, I doubt there was more than an oz of meat for the cost.
I found the people who gave me service quite nice, but the overall service of the place to be subpar. I wanted to eat in the main room, but a 4-top was using the only single table open as a place for their empty Margherita glasses. I went to their second space, and the only empty 2-top had back packs and empty glasses on it from a group at the long table. I could have said something, but didn't want to make a fuss. Ended up sitting at a big table by myself eating from a to-go box.
It just wasn't a pleasant experience. Definitely not worth $20 nachos (after tax/tip).
I've worked in places with a similar vibe... Above average food, order at the counter, limited seating. They always had someone minding the dining room. Bussing tables, keeping diners contained to their space, checking in with diners about their meal... And they never served a dine-in patron in a to-go box.
All that could be forgiven if the nachos were amazing... But I've had better nachos and dining experience for $3 at the Taco Bell by Loyola.
My take away was 2 things.. The MOD was focused on something other than dining room for the hour I was there, and I doubt the chef or the person making nachos ever eats them.
I spent $30 for nachos and a drink, and left feeling like I'd been in a college dining hall. The food here has always been above average, but it seems like management needs a...
Read moreSecond time eating from here. First time dined in and the rice bowl was tasty except for the hard clumpy burnt rice that I assumed was scraped from the bottom of the pot.
Ordered street corn tacos and burritos tonite. Tacos were tasty.. oily but had some flavor.
However their lime grilled steak burritos were just Nasty. First of all, the steak is not grilled. Its like a boiled in lime and fat flavored meat that looked more like boiled ground beef bits than steak. Hubby, the burrito lover couldn’t finish his. He was done after he hit the gristle (pic) and his poorly wrapped burrito collapsed on his plate. It really was just a greasy tasteless mess. A poor excuse for a burrito. We ordered sides of beans but instead got refried bean soup/ dip. It was tasty though, as beans go. Everyone is cutting corners today, but serving up such poor quality meat loaded with fat and gristle as steak is not acceptable.
Im reviewing tonite because I expect if I buy grilled steak, I get steak that was cooked on a grill. If I buy a side of beans, that does not say ‘refried’ that I get beans and not refried bean soup. And most importantly because i ate the rest of the hubby’s abandoned burrito and now we both feel sick from the fat/ grease from the meat, and I have a whole burrito left in the fridge that we are both avoiding, but can’t return for a refund.
Service is good. Food sub par. Overated. Overpriced. My pic below makes the gristle look...
