One-line Review: Hyderabadi Haleem Heaven!
Taste: 4/5 Quantity: 4/5 Quality: 4.5/5 Value for Money: 4.5/5 Service: 4.5/5 Hygiene: 4.5/5 Environment: 4/5 Overall: 4/5
➡️ First Impression: I stopped by Hyderabad House at 2225 W Devon Ave, Chicago, IL 60659, for my second visit, craving some authentic Hyderabadi flavors. It’s a small spot, but the real taste it offers made it feel special right away.
➡️ What I Ordered: I went for the mutton haleem and mutton biryani. The order came to around $32, which felt like a cheaper price compared to other places.
➡️ Taste & Quality: The mutton haleem was a standout—absolutely delicious with a rich, well-spiced taste that screamed authentic Hyderabadi style. It was so good I could’ve eaten another portion, but the biryani was next! The texture was perfect, and it left me craving more. The mutton biryani, though, didn’t hit the same high note—it was okay, with decent flavor, but fell short of my expectations after the haleem. I managed to finish it, but it wasn’t as memorable. The sides—onions, raita, lime, and what I think was sambar (apologies if I got the name wrong)—were a nice touch, adding freshness and balance to the meal. The quality overall felt authentic and freshly prepared, especially the hot food served.
➡️ Portion vs Price: The portions were very sufficient, especially for $32. The haleem portion left me wanting more (in a good way!), and the biryani was filling enough. The price felt inexpensive compared to other restaurants, offering great value for the taste and quantity.
➡️ Service & Environment: The service was great—the guy who served me (I forgot to ask his name) was super nice, hardworking, and made sure everything was perfect. They only accept cash, which was a bit of a surprise, but it worked out. The restaurant is small, clean, and not too crowded, with a nice environment that felt cozy. The food took a little time to arrive, but the hot, fresh delivery was worth the wait.
➡️ Final Thoughts: Hyderabad House in Chicago is a gem for real Hyderabadi mutton haleem—loved it so much I’m already planning my next visit! The biryani was okay but didn’t steal the show like the haleem. The friendly service, clean space, and affordable $32 meal make it a must-try, even with the cash-only policy.

Read moreHappened to visit this restaurant on 24th November 2017. Ordered couple of biryanis and haleem along with other chicken items. The food was served hot and the issue started when the leftovers are about to be packed in to-go boxes. The biryani served was stale and it gives foul smell(the smell of the damaged cooked rice/biryani). When the to-go box is taken to the employee serving at the restaurant, he noticed that the biryani is spoiled and the box is shown to another employee at the counter. Upon noticing the spoiled smell the female employee informed that she would inquire about it in the kitchen and returned few minutes later and admitted that a fresh biryani is brought and the stale biryani that was taken inside the kitchen was trashed. She apologized for the mistake happened and the employee who took the meal order was informed about the spoiled biryani, to which he immediately refused to accept, but upon his fellow employees admitting that the biryani was indeed stale, he responded in a way that it is not a mistake at all and on top of which he told me "what to do now". To check if this is just the case with our order, we have asked the customers at the next table about the order, they too mentioned that the chicken biryani served is stale and the employee who took the order again is not ready to accept that the mistake has been done. After all the drama when asked to provide the details to contact the manager the employee refused to share the details. Overall the experience with the Hyderabad House Family Dining restaurant at Devon Street, Chicago is not at all pleasant. Neither the quality of food nor the response from the employees is good. Hope this review helps others to avoid...
Read moreHyderabad House on Devon Ave in Chicago never disappoints. Open until the wee hours, this place has an unbeatable charm that revolves around its consistent and delectable offerings.
The menu might not have changed since the inception of the place, but trust me, that's a good thing. The Hyderabad chicken biryani is an absolute masterpiece, with perfectly seasoned rice and succulent pieces of chicken that leave your taste buds in awe. The paratha is another winner, crispy and flavorful, serving as the perfect accompaniment to any dish.
My personal favorite, the haleem, is a dish that keeps me coming back for more. It's rich, hearty, and a comforting bowl of goodness that hits all the right notes. Every bite feels like a warm hug, especially on those cold Chicago nights.
While the ambiance might not be the trendiest or most fashionable, it's the food that takes center stage. The place is always buzzing with people, even in the late hours of the night. The aroma of spices and the sound of sizzling pans create an atmosphere that is uniquely Hyderabad House.
The only drawback is the cash-only policy, which can be a bit inconvenient in this digital age. However, the incredible food makes it worth the trip to the ATM. The staff is friendly and efficient, adding to the overall positive experience.
In conclusion, if you're a fan of authentic and unchanged flavors, Hyderabad House is the place to be. Embrace the crowded charm, savor the timeless recipes, and indulge in a culinary journey that promises to keep you coming...
