Happened to visit this restaurant on 24th November 2017. Ordered couple of biryanis and haleem along with other chicken items. The food was served hot and the issue started when the leftovers are about to be packed in to-go boxes. The biryani served was stale and it gives foul smell(the smell of the damaged cooked rice/biryani). When the to-go box is taken to the employee serving at the restaurant, he noticed that the biryani is spoiled and the box is shown to another employee at the counter. Upon noticing the spoiled smell the female employee informed that she would inquire about it in the kitchen and returned few minutes later and admitted that a fresh biryani is brought and the stale biryani that was taken inside the kitchen was trashed. She apologized for the mistake happened and the employee who took the meal order was informed about the spoiled biryani, to which he immediately refused to accept, but upon his fellow employees admitting that the biryani was indeed stale, he responded in a way that it is not a mistake at all and on top of which he told me "what to do now". To check if this is just the case with our order, we have asked the customers at the next table about the order, they too mentioned that the chicken biryani served is stale and the employee who took the order again is not ready to accept that the mistake has been done. After all the drama when asked to provide the details to contact the manager the employee refused to share the details. Overall the experience with the Hyderabad House Family Dining restaurant at Devon Street, Chicago is not at all pleasant. Neither the quality of food nor the response from the employees is good. Hope this review helps others to avoid...
Read moreThe food was okay, the service not so good. There were 4 adults and one 20 month old in our group, it was Thursday around 7:30 PM, and only 2 other tables were occupied. When our food was brought out, they brought the biriyani first, set it on the table next to us, and went to help seat another family for over 5 min. Finally they got the food to us, but we had to wait another 10 min for the accompanying raita, gravy and salad. Same for the dessert, he brought out the gulab jamun and 10 min later he came with small bowls and spoons for us to share. Our mango lassi didn't come and when we finally got hold of the waiter and asked him, he said they had no straws. Apparently our drinks were made and just sitting there waiting for someone to go out, buy and bring some straws. He should have let us know, we were like just give us the drinks. When my husband went to paid and was writing out the tip we realized they already added 15% gratuity to our order. When asked the older gentleman serving was us this portion comes to us. I mean I understand that much but the menu clearly states that 15% will be added to party of 6 people or more. We were only 4 adults and one toddler. He didn't want to talk and just walked away. I am surprised no one else has commented on this 15% additions to their bills. It was a bad experience overall, and it did take them 1 hour to bring our food out with only 2 other...
Read moreOrdered food from this place and it's nowhere close to it's local counterpart on the other side of the road.
I ordered a chicken masala with naan, and a chicken biryani. It arrived piping hot, thanks for the Uber driver whom I paid extra to get me my food on priority. The food stank - it actually stank.
Chicken masala was cooked in yogurt, and I like yogurt so no qualms there. But the chef forgot one major step of their recipe - it's called "cooking". I could taste the yogurt was days old and may have been kept outside because it tasted raw and sour, really sour. I asked them to make it spicy and now all I could taste is sour yogurt with red chilli powder and no other flavor.
Biryani- biryanis are a sensual treat for me. The moment you cook biryani, the aroma makes you hungry so when it is ready, you devour it with much love. With the same anticipation, I opened their nearly packed container to smell that aroma and all I could smell was... Stale rice and bad chicken. Now, the chicken may be fresh but the gravy it was cooked in must have used the same yogurt which is why it might have stank. In the end, I sent them feedback clearly mentioning that it probably would not make a difference to them. I can vouch for this - it...
