I Am In Pizza Heaven
Yea, Yea, Yea. Right here in Lakewood, Ohio, a straight shot up the road from where we live on the EDGE they call it between Cleveland and Lakewood. A 1.8 mile walk in good weather or a bus that runs every 15 minutes or if we’re feeling luxurious, letting Uber be our chauffeur!
They opened in April of 2023, at least that’s the date of the menu. Everything about this place speaks upscale, but portions and prices defy.
They make one size pie – 14 inches. All I was interested in was the vegan option. Nobody around has yet to do what Boom’s did – 1$ extra for vegan cheese and 1$ extra for vegan pepperoni. No animal in the red sauce or crust. Now that’s what satisfaction guaranteed looks like.
The most perfect crust anybody this side of heaven ever achieved!! And char? Whoa Nellie buy me a beer! Help yourself from the coolers. And yes they know what the younger crowd wants: alcohol-free and alcohol – It’s the NEW IN Combo to keep their livers clean! It’s trendy and THE BOOM knows trendy!
Are they Italian? Nah, can’t be. Italians don’t make pizza THIS GOOD! I may be wrong, and if I am, then Scusami, but only a Scot could do a char on the crust like that and know the world will love it too! If it’s not a Scottish char, then GAHV moh LESH gool and Nae bother, I love it just the same; I don’t care where it’s from! This is my territory now. Perfection On a Plate.
We ordered two pizzas, one for Steve and one for me. He with animal product, me with animal-free cheese and pepperoni. Once he tasted mine, he said definitely next time he’s going animal-free.
We took an Uber there and a bus back, which wasn’t far. There were lots of people outside the front of Kirby – all wanting to know where we been – and all were interested in the new pizza shop in Lakewood.
Come to find out, Lilly’s not a fan of pepperoni; she’s never even had vegan pepperoni, but THE CRUST? She adored and politicked for more and more, showing us right where to place it – tiny cuts for Lilly – watching her devour something with such obvious delight, delighted us too! Lilly says next time,”double crust for me”. Lilly Belle Pi is our Dog child with the heart of God running through her veins.
I don’t know who makes their vegan pepperoni, but it’s a perfect match to the animal; no one would know if they weren’t told. No one to date in all the animal-based restaurants at which I’ve eaten, put the animal-free meat and cheese together. If they had animal-free sausage, like Pizza Hut, they’d omit the animal-free cheese, claiming their oven’s too hot. That was a lie. Boom’s Pizza does it perfectly.
Leftovers anyone? WOW. Walk On Water! Not everyone wants the barn and the garden, so give them what they want. Boom’s Pizza knows, understands and moves on it.
Ever order an Impossible Burger at a restaurant and they only serve it on an animal bun? That’s an ANIMAL SLUR to me. Boom’s Pizza DID NOT DISRESPECT. Plus the flavors and textures and presentation to go with it? HEAVEN ON A PLATE is all I can say!
This is the FUNNEST REVIEW I ever did. Get ready Lakewood. When I post this, Lakewood GOES GLOBAL!!
A reminder. Don’t drive drunk in Lakewood; those Irish cops are waiting to mess up your life if you even dare. Okay? Thank you in the most glowing of terms to all who worked to achieve this MIRACLE of PIZZA on Detroit Avenue! Something for everyone for sure.
Come one, come all!
A genuine pleasure,

When we walked in some time after 5 PM the place was booming! Lots of good energy! We need that. The world needs that! Nobody fighting!
The restrooms are labeled the same “WHATEVER Just Wash...
Read moreI am skeptical of any kind of "boutique" pizza shop, but this place makes a pretty damn good pizza. There is an undeniable trend of pizza becoming more "fancy" with wood-fired style pizza being the latest craze as these shops have popped up all over the west side. Having worked in pizza shops throughout my 20's, I think this trend is opposed to the spirit of a good pizza experience which should be a delicious, affordable, and plentiful meal. Unfortunately, Boom's only ticks one of those boxes. The pizza is delicious, no denying it. But the prices are absolutely berserk - scratch kitchen or not. $28 for a specialty pizza, which is approximately 14", is never going to be justifiable no matter how good it is. Especially with Ohio Pie Co. and Il Rione only ten minutes away, who both offer a better value for the product you receive (in my opinion).
The decor inside is pretty nice, the place feels clean, even if it does have a sort of tacky "Downtown Lakewood" kind of vibe. One thing I couldn't believe was that they give you paper plates (!!!) to eat this incredibly pricey pizza on. There is a self serve water station with small glasses, meaning you if you drink a lot of water (I do) at dinner, you're going to be getting up a lot to go get refills. This could be a tactic to get you to drink less water, or it could be poor logistics, but it should be changed. There are also servers (?) who check up almost too frequently, even though you have to order the food at the counter and they don't really do anything except drop off pizzas and then clear them once you're done. With the prices these pizza cost, they better be paying those employees well, but I have my doubts considering they ask for 15/20/25 percent tips on an already very steep bill which yields basically no real service. There's nothing wrong with this model in particular, except that because the prices are so high, it makes the dine-in experience seem really cheap. I don't mind spending a good amount on a great dining experience, and while the pizza here is very good, the experience doesn't seem to justify the cost.
Good pizza though, and worth a visit if...
Read moreWow!! The husband and I have been looking for a pizza place that we haven’t tried yet, it was between Angelo’s and Boom’s.
We are SO happy we ended up at Boom’s. It’s a cute little place with very chill vibes. We appreciated their smaller menu, especially since I can get overwhelmed with too many choices.
They patiently waited while we looked over the menu and then were ready and waiting to take our order. We ended up deciding to split a Margherita pizza.
While we waited for the pizza, my husband finally got clarification on what the Whipped Ricotta Jar was and despite my trying to convince him to try it from the start, he wasn’t convinced. As we are sitting there I better explained what it was and showed him a picture and of course the next words out of his mouth are “that looks really good, why didn’t you suggest we order that?” 😡.
The pizza came out just before I ordered the whipped ricotta. While we waited for the pizza to cool we throughly enjoyed the whipped ricotta, I even let my husband finish it because he was enjoying it that much!!
Before leaving we decided to give their dessert a try. We were planning to get the Gooey Butter Cup - Nutella flavor and a CBD water that piqued my husband’s interest. While picking them out the server raved about the Vegan Pudding Cup. While we were hesitant, it turned out to be delicious!! I’m not sure if it’s because I knew it was Vegan that the coconut flavor came through, but I guarantee if I hadn’t known that I wouldn’t have noticed it at all!! It is REALLY delicious!! I personally liked it better than the Gooey Butter Cup, but of course my husband liked the cup better.
We loved the water station and low key vibes. We are excited to come back and try more, too bad we didn’t bring more of an appetite this time.
We definitely recommend Boom’s Pizza!! Check it out, you...
