Whaddup, home skillet?

While I have enjoyed many a skillet at Denny's over the years, on this occasion, I decided to unleash my Dragon's Lair and play Dirk the Daring by trying something new.
$2 quesadilla- Hey, hey! Not bad for 2 bucks. With pico de gallo & sour cream, the quesadillas were large & cheesy. Like an overweight Michael Buble ;p A good choice for a starter.
Bacon Slamburger- A burger with bacon, eggs your style & hashbrowns, this was a stick to your ribs meal. It came with choice of more hasbrowns, fries, country potatoes or veggies. I committed carbicide by choosing hashbrowns, because I'm a member of the foods that are crunchy fan club. In addition, I had to ask if I can have the usual burger accoutrement of onions, tomatoes, lettuce & pickles. To me, a burger just isn't a burger without these. A heaping mess, I enjoyed getting my hands dirty diving into this burger. With runny egg yolk dripping from my face, I indulged w/o a passing thought on pounds or pant sizes.
Service was good. We were the only ones dining there at the time, so we had the undivided attention of the staff. Minimal wait for our food to come out, and our waters were refilled in a timely manner.
I was impressed with the seating arrangement. Gone are the booths everywhere a la IHOP, with tables replacing the middle areas of each section, creating a layout that feels more open & spacious. There is also an ample private area for meetings and what not.
Parking is in a private lot shared by El Pollo Loco. It's easier to enter going westbound on Carson Street, otherwise it's a quick U-turn on this busy street in front of the Long Beach Towne Center.
Open 24/7 with meals that cater to the breakfast & late night crowd, Denny's offers simple fare which I like. Combine that with their frequent coupons and free birthday Grand Slam, you're sure to see me there, perhaps during some random early morning, helping myself to something eggy, salty & extremely fatty. Here's to your...
Read moreToday was not a good day for Denny's. The waiter was nice enough, the place was clean, service was almost too fast though. I say this because both orders of hash browns came to us burnt AND raw at the same time. My mother wouldn't even eat them they were too raw. My med rare steak came out burnt on one side and not even seared on the other. It was tough, dry and over well done. The meat would shred like beef jerky, that tough and dry even next to the bone of the steak. The pancakes took a while to come after my mother received her eggs, hash browns etc, and they were STILL burnt. The cook tried to hide a lot of it by placing stuff burnt side down or covered with cream. Even the toast had butter on one slice, none on the other. The server could see those hash browns were burnt and pale and he still served it to us. It appears the whole staff is either undertrained or just do not care anymore. If we complained, it would have been 65-70% of the food and it would have taken way too long to wait. At this point, I wasn't sure what I would get back if I complained. My wife's fruit cup wasn't burnt, the moon's over my hammy were good and the eggs on the other two plates were perfect. When I went to pay first and say something after, the manager wasn't much better. He called up the people behind me to start paying, ignoring me and the social distancing entirely once I had my card in the reader. I stood there for a few and he finally noticed me asking (with a perplexed look)if I was "done" when he wasn't even finished with them. It takes mere moments to make sure a customer receives great service. It also takes a lot to make sure SO much of it is unsatisfactory all at the same time. This was a lot of bad choices that appear to be just "the way"...
Read moreUnfortunately this is the worst service I have ever received from one of my favorite restaurants. Our server , Liliana, was by far the worst server I’ve ever had in my 20+ years of going to a Dennys. She took all our orders and somehow managed to miss a few and bring us orders from other tables. We also received attitude when asking questions and she never circled back to see if we needed refills or anything else. In addition to the lack of proper service, she laid down our plates as if we were asking for free food. Coffee and fries were spilled and not an apology was given. Unfortunately the Dennys in front of the Long Beach towns center will no longer be receiving my business nor the business of my friends and family. Also the Manager on Duty was rude and not professional at all. And the sad thing was we weren’t the only table who had issues with Liliana. Another table left with 2 people of their party not eating due to their order not being taken properly. This was at 11:30pm on a Wednesday night so it was not busy at all. If you see Liliana as your server, either leave or ask for someone else. You’ll...
