The Flying Rib (May 8, 2023)
It was the last day of a short trip visiting Clevleland, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (A must for those seeking nostalgia!) and it was around 2 p.m. The day was warm, and after a short 10 minute walk from the public transportation stop, entering a air-conditioned bar was a great relief.
The bar was split into two sections, one side had pool tables and other entertainment tools, while the other had a few booths and the bar. It has been a VERY long while since I ate at a bar as I don’t drink much, and usually do more take-outs than dine-ins. What attracted me to this place were good reviews and also extra miles from an airline program. I also like to do something different while visiting a foreign city just to add extra diversity and experience.
The menu was not extensive (fewer than 20 items total), consisting of burgers/chicken and other sandwiches, plus rib and steak dinners. Decided on the simple Patty Melt as I like rye bread. The sandwich had an impressive half pound of beef, and was cooked well done. The texture of the meat, however, remained very juicy and soft. I had to admit that this was the best tasting burger I had in years. Loaded the accompanied fries with hot sauce, and this was one fantastic meal. There were also loads of alcoholic beverages offered though I settled for a cola. Pricing was very reasonable for such a good meal.
If you are ever close to this area, make sure you drop by and enjoy the burgers. I shall definitely make this place a must visit when I come by this area...
Read moreI recently came across a list of "hole-in-the-wall" venues to check out in Cleveland. I love checking out these sort of places, and The Flying Rib was on the list. Turns out a friend of mine just heard about it, so we headed over last night for ribs and a brew.
It's a cozy place with a fair amount of seating. There is a ping pong table, punching bag machine, jukebox, a lot of standard bar entertainment (some activities require a 2 drink minimum in order to use). The atmosphere is relaxed, so it's easy to sit and chill. The ladies behind the bar, Shannon and Marisol, were very nice and took good care of us.
The prices are incredibly cheap. You'll find fried appetizers, burgers, and ribs. We came for the ribs, so we each got a half slab dinner w/ 2 sides ($8.99) and split a burger ($4.99).
Everything reminded me off a lot of places I ate at back home: nothing extraordinary, but decent. The ribs were meaty, and the burger was a good size (1/2 LB). The ribs were baked, not smoked, and were a little tough. I didn't taste any rub or seasoning on the meat. Portions are massive. I had to take leftovers home.
The biggest draw of this place to me is price. Drinks are affordable, and it is practically impossible to leave hungry. Friendly service and a casual environment make for a nice, simple outing. If you're looking to grab some cheap drinks and eats, definitely stop by...
Read moreI recently ordered takeout from The Flying Rib, and I was extremely disappointed with the quality of the food. It seemed like little effort was put into preparing the meal properly.
The salad was a disaster—several ingredients were missing, and what was left was unappetizing. The lettuce was bitter, with some pieces clearly rotten, making it completely inedible.
The two burgers were just as bad. They were undercooked, missing key ingredients, and served on soggy buns that fell apart immediately. It was clear that there was no attention to detail in their preparation.
The mozzarella sticks were another major letdown. Instead of the crispy, cheesy bites I expected, they were just barely cooked breading with little to no cheese inside. It was as if they had been rushed through the fryer without being cooked properly.
I even tried to contact them to just remake it not refund where that was a bust
Overall, this was one of the worst takeout experiences I’ve had. The quality and care were seriously lacking, and I won’t be ordering from The Flying Rib again unless they make major...
