We popped in because - Empanadas. This was one of the strangest experiences in an establishment I have ever experienced. It felt like the restaurant was still trying to figure itself out as fast food or sit-down dining. It was obvious from entering that the voice of the place was off... and then everything that followed made it weird.
Just ordering was confusing... too much having to explain the menu and there were items on the menu they no longer made "for months" according to our server. do we order from the QR code installed on the table? The counter? Or a server? We ended up ordering from the server, so yeah.
At least 5 other parties came in including one table who said they had a reservation, but 3/4 of the restaurant was empty. The thing about this large party and their reservation was that they sat down loading up selfie lights and things to hold their phones as if they were youtubers or something... strange.
Well, every single party that came in were served food before we we were. We ordered 2 kinds of empanadas and a fries - that's it. Even the influencers who got HUGE orders on complex displays got their food before us.
We did not complain, but when our food eventually arrived, we asked for to-go containers and our bill. We had been there a long time waiting. The owner came over to our table telling us the food was on her, but we tried to pay anyway. We were not mad, I was take by the spectacle of the place... there were things that have to be experienced in their absurdity.
E.G. Any order, no matter how small, is brought out on a complicated set of tiers with a roman candle on the back of it burning... burning and shooting sparks. One order came up with an employee running a bubble machine behind it.
The restaurant is quite nice in general, but they have to figure out who they are.
There was a lot ... a lot of Christmas decorations and junk posing as decoration inside and outside the restaurant.
The owner was a distinct presence in the way Nurse Ratchet is. I mean she can't be missed.
The owner tells me that the reason my food took so long was because each order was made when it was submitted to the kitchen. So, nothing is made until the order is sent to the kitchen.... on what planet does a restaurant do that, let alone one what is just empanadas.
The food is really good... and anyone out there saying that this is a good method of preparing... you have never worked in a professional kitchen before. Based on the menu this place should have every cover fed within 15 minutes of the order. It was an experience, I'll say that. Enough I waited a few days to recount it. I told a bunch or people about this place... and not in a good way. I am surprised it is still...
