First time eating here via delivery and itâll be our last. Major disappointment and a complete waste of money! -Garlic fish plate- Online pic shows that it comes with a small salad(tomato & lettuce) didnât get that on my plate. And yes, I actually wanted to eat it. However, I did get more than half of the styrofoam box filled with brown rice and the rest with cabbage. 3 pieces of very-very thin fish fillets. So thin that it was majority all breading and hardly any fish meat. Only one of the fillets were thoroughly cooked through on top of it. The other 2 were not. The little meat that was between the breading was still pink/translucent and not a solid white color. I wasnât even going to attempt to eat it so there went majority of my dinner. -Terri beef bowl- Consisted of the entire bowl filled with nothing but rice, 1 piece of broccoli(huh?) and 5 small pieces/cut into strips of Terri beef. Broccoli was an odd one, being that Hawaiian style terri beef bowls or plates for that matter, never comes with broccoli. -Spicy Teri beef plate- Looked the most decent out of the 3 with a good amount of meat and rice ratio. But my daughter said it tasted meh. Not seasoned enough and on par with the other Hawaiian bbq place (âLâ) which isnât saying much. -2 sides kimchee & 2 sides mac salad- The mac salad was terrible. Had a weird aftertaste to it. Nothing remotely close to Hawaiian style Mac. Most likely due to using the off brand mayo that a lot of Asian places up here use. Kimchee tasted sour. Like on the verge of going bad cause it was too old already. So it all got thrown out. Spent money on pretty much nothing but rice for dinner. And as far as this place claiming to be Hawaiian style food, I can assure you itâs not! I was born and raised and this place isnât it. Theyâre no different than all of the other places you see around town claiming that theyâre a...
Read moreMy wife and I love trying new restaurants, and this was probably the best initial experience I've ever had. The service and food we're both topnotch, and very unexpected for a new restaurant.
The food was probably the best example of casual Hawaiian I can think of, and I've eaten at almost all of the local spots. The chicken katsu was crispy, but not burnt, and juicy inside. The spicy chicken had a great kick, and was served with sauteed onions (also cooked in the sauce) and chives for garnish. The macaroni salad was creamy and tangy, without that common curdled stickiness. The rice and veggies were also great, but to be fair those are hard to get wrong.
We were greeted by two young ladies wearing leis at the counter, and they were helpful while not being too pushy with our ordering. The menu is definitely vast for a venue of this size, and it took awhile to sort through the offerings. I ordered a half & half combo, and my wife ordered a small portion of chicken katsu (which seemed to be a regular portion, and came with rice), and out order totaled about $18! It was ready in about 5 minutes and was brought to our table.
The restaurant was very clean, and it has a cohesive look to it. It's thoroughly decorated in kitschy Hawaiian, and it's bright and inviting. There are numerous banners and menu pictures to help newcomers find something they'd like. My only suggestion is that they make more room for the lids and straws, as the fountain is right next to the register, and I had to squeeze in next to someone who was placing an order.
Overall great experience! We will definitely come again. Best of luck...
Read moreOnce in a while, my family and I enjoy eating some fast casual type of Hawaiian restaurants. We've eaten here about three times now and although I can't say this is my go-to, favorite Hawaiian restaurant, it does offer a quick fix to folks that need that island style pick me up.
During all of our visits, we've tried the Chicken Katsu plate, Chicken Katsu Curry plate, Barbeque Mixed Plate Combo, Manapua, Spam Musubi, and Potstickers. Overall, the food is good...I can't say the same about the Kalbi though since I'm biased with Korean-style Kalbi - it's just not the same for me. The Manapua was shockingly good here. Back in Hawaii, I'd normally have to go to Chinese restaurants to get good Manapua, so this was a pleasant surprise. The Katsu Curry and BBQ Chicken were really good, along with their Mac Salad and Potstickers.
I was a little weirded out on the idea of having a bunch of boxes and such stacked off in the corner of the dining area. Although it doesn't affect the safety of customers, nor does it get in the way of ordering your food, it's just aesthetically displeasing. Definitely does not affect the quality of the food. As mentioned earlier, it's not my favorite Hawaiian joint, but I still recommend this...
