I have multiple complaints with this place.
Came here a couple months ago with my HS age children and was greeted with "How old are you?" Literally the first thing out of the guys mouth. It was 6pm and I'm in my 40's, I told him and he proceeds to tell me he doesn't allow teenagers in his restaurant alone because they damage things. I'm clearly not a teenager so the question was weird, on top of that I don't know how a restaurant plans to survive without serving teenagers. Then the food took over 20 min to come out and we literally got around 10 fries each in our order. This was the owner so there's no excuse for any of it really.
Should have learned my lesson then but I took my wife back another time recently and walked in to find the waitress hugged up with some guy at the bar, after standing at the counter for a minute or two and looking at her waiting for her to say something she gets up with an attitude and comes around the counter to help us. Ordered our meals and water cups and she tried to charge us $4 for a water cup???? I told her I wasn't charged for waters 2 months ago. She said oh well so I said no thanks take them off and ordered some beers they had advertised on special. The food again took way too long to come out for what it was, especially since we were the only people there, and again we were served less fries than you get in a happy meal. And then to top it all off she brings out room temperature beers.
Like others have said this place is literally always dead, tells you something about the place, and the food isn't bad so it ain't that scaring people away. It is way overpriced though, $20 for a sandwich is ridiculous. The "owner" is running this place into the ground and I'd be surprised to see it make it through the end of the year. Good riddance, hopefully they'll be replaced by something worth taking up valuable space on Mass St. I'll never go there again and I'll actually be discouraging people from going there. Super...
Read moreI recently visited Fat Shack in Lawrence, and after seeing some mixed reviews, I wanted to check it out for myself. I have to say, my experience was excellent, and it seems like the team has made a real effort to improve in areas that were previously criticized.
Food Quality and Taste
The menu offers a great selection of indulgent comfort food. I tried the Fat Bronco sandwich, which was loaded with crispy chicken fingers, jalapeño poppers, mozzarella sticks, and fries—all packed into a soft roll. The combination of flavors and textures was spot on, and nothing felt overly greasy, which shows they’re paying attention to quality. The fried cheesecake bites were a perfect sweet ending to the meal.
Service and Atmosphere
The service was friendly, and my order was prepared promptly and accurately. The staff seemed motivated and welcoming, creating a positive environment. The restaurant itself was clean and well-organized, making for a comfortable dining experience.
I also noticed that some of the harsh negative reviews don’t quite match up with what I experienced. Of course, no place is perfect, but some of the complaints seem more personal—maybe from people who had unrelated issues or past conflicts. From what I saw, the team was doing a great job, and other customers around me seemed satisfied as well.
Delivery and Order Accuracy
For those who prefer delivery, my experience was smooth. My order arrived on time, still hot and fresh, which suggests they’ve worked on improving delivery service. Unlike some older complaints about delays, this wasn’t an issue for me.
Overall Experience
If you’re looking for a place to grab satisfying, over-the-top comfort food, Fat Shack delivers. No restaurant is without flaws, but from what I saw, they’re focused on making improvements and keeping customers happy. I’d recommend giving it a try and seeing...
Read moreThey're a little expensive but they're also open until 3:00 a.m. which is pretty convenient for a late night doordash driver in lawrence. And also their menu is far different than most around which is the reason why they're a little expensive.
You can get a classic burger here for around $6 plus tax which is quite expensive for my taste but the located downtown Lawrence on mass Street and if you're already downtown looking for a good burger or a good sandwich then they're right up your alley.
They also serve alcohol and have decent seating inside plus a nice bar to sit at plus another table where you can look out the window as you're eating so that's kind of cool. I enjoy the store decorations within, the giant metallic fat shack that greets you as you walk in the door. It's right down the street from the replay lounge so get your burger and then go watch a band play.
Fat shack is honestly one of the best places in Lawrence when it comes to doordash deliveries especially at night. they do have paid parking meters right out in front which can be annoying but there's a parking garage just down the block on New Hampshire Street to take care of that problem. And if you're not about that garage life you can park a couple blocks further from that and one of the parking lots as long as you don't exceed 2 hours.
So, for a downtown Lawrence Burger joint that serves alcohol, soda and a plethora of bizarre sandwiches and appetizers, a little pricey but definitely worth it if you're a late night worker in Lawrence or if you just want to sandwich that's different than your generic Big...
