“Jacques Denim” is my alias, and much like Jimmy John’s sandwiches: fairly cheesy. I personally work at the Jimmy John’s in Layton, Utah, and have for the past 21 months. I help make the sandwiches, and help deliver them. I know the area like the back of my hand (what the heck... is that a freckle?), and my delivery time is much faster than my sandwich-making. I’m not a manager or spokesperson for this store, or for the company, but maybe I can address some of your concerns in a neutral, unbiased way.
The Layton store is part of a strip mall which runs the length of a city block. Jimmy John’s shares the same plumbing with the mall. I can’t speak for the other stores, but our floor drains do get backed up, occasionally, especially when there is never-ending street construction going on, all year-round. We have a very strong store pump which plugs into the wall. It instantly reverses the flooding. All that’s left to do is the mopping. Whomever mopped the restrooms after one particular flooding, probably forgot to use our Green sanitizer solution, which kills germs, and actually smells minty. (Street construction was recently responsible for shutting off our water completely, for more than a few minutes, in all honesty.) But I’ve always been proud of our attractive bathrooms. Unlike other fast food restaurants, and convenience stores, we don’t tolerate graffiti or vandalism, and our restrooms are cleaned at least twice a day. If we’re super-slammed with many orders all at once (which happens quite often), we need all hands on deck, and we can’t always monitor the restrooms until we’ve caught up. It’s bad business telling a very hungry customer, who only has 25 minutes to eat lunch, “I’m sorry, I’ll get right on it, making your sandwich, after I’m done cleaning the restrooms!” As for our bread being “dry and hard,” well, it’s traditional French bread, and it waits on the cooling racks by the dozens, to be used on the sandwich line. We bake it fresh, after it’s had enough time to rise, and the moistness or “dryness” of each sub roll depends on how that sub roll is used. Some customers prefer extra oil and vinegar, and/or extra mayo, veggies, lettuce, hot peppers, onions, pickles, cucumbers, or tomatoes. These extras not only moisturize the bread, but, too many extras can make it a little soggy. We do special requests all day long, and that’s our job. If you buy traditional French bread at any store or bakery, its two ends are not going to be as soft as the middle of that loaf. Our French bread gets used so quickly, anyway, that we sometimes give a customer a sandwich while the bread is still warm from the oven. We also have nine-grain bread (thick-sliced-flat, or the nine-grain sub roll). It’s much softer (and healthier), and we keep it moist inside a transparent, covered bin. Since the French bread is preferred ten times more than the nine-grain, we use the French too fast to put it all in covered bins. Our bread rack on wheels can hold (100) 16” sub rolls at a time, if necessary. Every bakery probably uses the same system.
There’s a lot more to cover in my review, which is merely a fast-tracked response to concerns. Again, I haven’t been authorized by anyone to write this response. I just thought I could help, by giving you all the point of view of someone from The Inside. I’ve never regretted working for Jimmy John’s, and I’ll never get tired of their food. I’ve eaten at many other fast food places, and I’ve never witnessed more upbeat comradeship than at my job. (At one particular franchise, that starts with an “M,” I’ve tried to enjoy my burger while watching the kitchen crew constantly yell at each other. Thank goodness there’s only DRIVE-THRU these...
Read moreI love Jimmy John's sandwiches! Yum Yum Yum! You can get the 16" long sub or a regular slice of bread sandwich and all the delicious toppings as well! They can make a mean sandwich that would make you wanting to come back for more. They do not need to be worried about getting enough meat or veggies. They are great that way. The huge disappointment... HUGE mistake on their part, the don't customize not compromise on several things that I think is far out of control and so unbelievably thoughtless of a sandwich shop that is customer service oriented! :( I had just had some dental work done and had some sores in my mouth and I needed to be able to cut my sandwich into small bite size pieces. Simple right? Not at Jimmy John's! You can have them cut it up for you into smaller slides but they have "NO" utinsils at ALL! They will give you a napkin but that's about it. I got a large sandwich and wanted some of the oil and vinegar sauce which I love, to be on the sandwich but I asked for it to be put it on the side in case the vinegar part bothered my sure mouth. Simple request, I think. Oh, but at Jimmy John's, you can't get any of your toppings on the side at all! NOTHING on the side. So, I needed to decide whether I should or shouldn't get it on my sandwich. I was a little put out over their lack of any customer service what do ever! However, with even the really "petty" things I've mentioned, I still loved my amazing sandwich I got from there. Sadly, I'm more likely to go to another company for sandwiches versus going back there for those ridiculous rules which they conduct their business. I will return again but probably later versus sooner. That is why I rated them at 4 stars. There sandwich was so Yummy and hit the spot so that is what will bring me back sometime in the future. However, in today's society, lots of great places to get a good sub sandwiches and they accommodate their customer with simple requests like a plastic knife or fork. I would be confident that other great places would accommodate a request for the sauce on the side, even if I had to pay a little bit more cash for the services. I still love a great sub from Jimmy John's though! Just think about maybe a few areas of customer service for improvement? It would go a long way in helping you and your customers. Thank you for a delicious meal even though I had to go get a plastic knife from a...
Read moreOrdered online with the Layton Jimmy Johns and was significantly unimpressed. I ordered my sandwich online and when I got home to eat it, it was missing two things that were supposed to be on it. I called Jimmy Johns to see if I could get a new sandwich and they informed me that I would need to bring in the incorrect sandwich if I l wanted a new one. That is very inconvenient since I live 30 minutes away and I was picking up something on my way home. I spoke to Kelley first who put me on the phone with one of the managers, Jacob, who was extremely unhelpful. He kept putting me on hold without letting me know and he seemed to have a hard time answering my questions. He told me again I would need to bring the sandwich in to get a new one. After hanging up, I decided I just wanted my money back instead so I called and just asked for a refund instead of a new sandwich and that I would still bring in the sandwich, which they said they couldn’t do. Kelley answered again and she continued to put me on hold without letting me know and then kept arguing saying its policy to not refund money. I asked to speak to the general manager who wasn’t in at the time. She kept putting me on hold and then laughed when I asked for a refund again. I told her I didn’t appreciate her laughing and she made up an excuse about why she was laughing. They finally agreed to refund my money and when I asked for some kind of confirmation that I will be getting my money back she rudely said “your bank account...” At this point i will not go back to the Layton store as they handled this very...
