GameStop in Layton has been my go-to spot for a while now, and overall, it holds up really well—especially compared to other locations in the area. The staff here has always been friendly and helpful without making you feel pressured to buy things you didn’t ask for. That’s something I really appreciate. Whether I’m picking up a new release, browsing for pre-owned gems, or trading in old games, I usually leave satisfied.
The store itself is decently sized and well organized. The shelves are stocked with a solid mix of new and used games, accessories, consoles, and collectibles. I’ve walked in multiple times not really knowing what I wanted and ended up finding something cool just by wandering. They also tend to have better availability on newer releases and special editions than some of the busier mall locations. If you’re trying to avoid the long lines or chaotic energy of bigger stores, this location is a win.
One of the best things about this store is the staff—they know their stuff. A few times, I’ve asked about compatibility between accessories or needed recommendations, and they actually took the time to break things down without rushing me or sounding annoyed. I’ve also seen them work with younger customers and parents who don’t know much about gaming, and they’re super patient and respectful, which is honestly refreshing.
Overall, though, this GameStop consistently delivers. It feels like a proper neighborhood gaming spot where you can walk in, browse, and chat with people who actually care about games. It’s not flashy, but it’s reliable, and that’s what I look for. If they keep up the good service and maybe add a bit more energy and clarity around used items, they could easily hit five...
Read moreGameStop is sure hanging on like a stubborn scab on the elbow of retail.. I’m amazed that they’re still drawing breath, frankly. I hadn’t been in for some time, and thought I’d pop in to see what their current business model looks like. True to form, it was mere minutes before I was talked to in a condescending tone by some pile of clothing with a name tag I couldn’t read. He gave me some sarcastic response when I asked when a particular game was coming out. And when I turned down the offer to preorder, I was talked down to further. On a more positive note, I was informed that the bearded behemoth with tiny hands no longer works there, which will probably bring them some much needed positive energy. That guy was a veritable black hole of bad attitude and fake pleasantries. Keep reading these reviews and you’ll learn more about him. Anyway, I left the store empty handed of course, but it was nice to get a feel for things and see if anything had improved. Sad to say that wasn’t the case. Farewell GameStop. There’s an empty grave waiting for you right between Toys R Us and...
Read moreUpdated review 5/28/24: This store has improved so much in the last year. The staff that I encouter are incredible. They are so helpful, and always cheerful. I've really appreciated Gabrielle and how helpful and kind she is. She always goes out of her way to create a great experience when I visit. Whatever changes were made, the difference is noticeable! Thank you!
Original review Spring 2024: I really like the concept of Gamestop and their rewards system, so I choose to shop here. There are a few awesome employees that work at this location that are helpful and enjoy their job, but there are two employees in particular that create such an awful experience every time I visit. They question what I say when I want to price match, disregard and doubt Gamestop's own policies, and are overall disrespectful when I ask questions or pay for purchases. It seems like this is pretty common based on the other reviews. I hope something changes soon, or other local stores will receive my...
