J & T Smokehouse — Restaurant in Leesburg

We recently visited J & T Smokehouse in Leesburg after seeing the glowing reviews—and let me tell you, they weren’t exaggerating. As long-time locals and serious barbecue lovers, we’ve tried just about every spot in town. This one stands out in every category.

The moment we walked in, we were greeted with genuine Lake County Florida hospitality. The service was prompt and kind, setting the tone for an unforgettable meal. The meats? Smoked to perfection—tender, flavorful, and deeply satisfying.

But the real revelation was the sauce. Both the house barbecue and the mustard-based sauce were masterfully balanced. They delivered a perfect kick across the palate—hitting all the right notes on the tongue, bold without being overpowering, and full of character. It’s a rare craft to get that right, and they nailed it.

And the sides—especially the baked beans—tasted like Christmas in a bowl. Sweet, savory, and spiced just right. Every element of the meal felt intentional and elevated.

A very small location, with very limited seating, and almost no signage. If you’re not looking for it, you’ll drive right by. This establishment is the very definition of “mom & pop”. That being said, the owners are unbelievably pleasant, and seem to truly love what they do. The chopped pork is unbeatable! The potato salad and the baked beans are just about the best I have ever had. They have a sweet bbq sauce and a mustard based sauce that are both incredibly flavorful. Since it was my first time here, I decided to try the ribs as well. Also, cooked to perfection. The prices were reasonable, and the portions enormous. It appeared that most of the business is to-go, though there are two, two-person tables inside and one table outside. I would highly recommend this...

J&T Smokehouse is absolutely everything BBQ should be! The portions are generous, the food is delicious, and the hospitality is gracious.

I ordered the ribs and chicken w/ collard greens and Mac&cheese. Not only did it come out with half a rack of ribs and half a chicken worth of mains... it came out with enough sides to ensure you weren't left for wanting. All of which came out on a pleasantly decorative plate. I couldn't have felt more at home.

The smoke on the meats was done to perfection, leaving them flavorful and tender. Sides were very tasty as well, undoubtedly made with love.
