We just stopped in after googling nearby ice cream shops, what made us pick this shop is that it said homemade and open until 11. We like to shop local instead of chain so we headed to Kings. When we arrived there were about 8 people out front who were laughing and talking. We opened the doors and were looked at like we didn't belong, and felt like they were bothered by our presence, but we promised the boys ice cream. We ordered 2 small cones and 2 baby cones. Let's just say this the pineapple yogurt had a 1 out of 10 for pineapple taste, and came right off the cone on the second Iick, next to drop was my son's mint chocolate chip, again the ice cream the two young ladies scooped on was never pushed into the cone just perched on the top like humpty dumpty on a wall. I had to save the little guys ice cream somewhat so I jammed the cone on the scoop on the pavement and picked it up and I bite off the outer layer and spit it out in the bushes. I then pushed his poor ice cream into his cone with my mouth, I took a small take, again I discovered a poor excuse for mint chocolate chip ice cream only this time I got a bonus of ice crystals. Far far cry from a smooth homemade ice cream and smiling happy faces you would expect from a little mom...
Read moreWe come here often and generally have good a experience. Tonight was different when we discovered a locked door at 10:24pm with employees and people inside. This was confusing as the hours of the shop were painted on the door “11am-11pm.” We knocked on the window of the front door and the gaggle of teens behind the counter ‘working’ turned around to look at us square in eye, and then immediately directed their gaze back to their phones. We knocked again— at this point just curious as to what the store hours were so we could plan ahead for tomorrow. Same response—Or lack there of. We tried one more knock. Finally, one employee comes around the counter to open the door and graciously let us patron their business. She mentions they closed early tonight due to lack of customers. We found that interesting because a group of 6 people came in right after us and it is typically is busy around this time period in the summer. We quickly order, pay, and walk to leave as the employees’ boyfriends who were sitting at a table boo us out the door. The minute we get outside—- the scoop of ice cream falls off the...
Read moreVery disappointed with the service here last night. We’ve never had a problem with Kings and love their ice cream. That’s why on our last night in Lewes we promised everyone some ice cream from Kings. My cousin and I showed up at 8:50 for ice cream and to grab some things for others at the house. Knowing full well that the establishment closes at 9. Now I used to work at an ice cream shop so I understand that before close can be stressful, however there is no reason to be rude and turn down customers. We were waiting on the outside as the inside was full. But as we were waiting the employees told inside customers to turn the sign to closed! Meanwhile it’s 8:55 and the business is very well still open. We tried to walk in when others left, but we were literally yelled at by the employees to leave. Absolutely unacceptable for future paying customers! I even showed the workers my phone that said it was 8:57 and they refused our business. When we got home everyone was disappointed we came back empty handed. So others beware you have to show up 30 minutes before close if you want them to...
