Portillo's Northlake — Restaurant in Leyden Township

food was great. place was clean. I had a bad experience ordering catering. I placed an order earlier in the day. I showed up to pick it up 2 hours earlier than the original scheduled pickup time since I was already in the area. I was not expecting the order to be ready but I figured I would go in to ask if it can be prepared earlier. Afterall, the order was only 2.5lb of beef, two bags of bread, gravy and the canned peppers. These items can be easily bagged within a minute. ( I worked there 13 years ago so I would know)

The receptionist in the catering area was not able to find my order. He called a manager over to help me. The manager found my order and confirmed it was not ready because I arrived earlier than the expected pickup time, which was perfectly fine. I acknowledged that I was early and that I am willing to wait for this order to be prepared. He made a condescending comment about me arriving early and then proceeded to tell the person in the catering area to help me. Several minutes pass and I do not see the guy putting together my order. The young receptionist guy who is working hard passing out all the door dasher orders has absolutely no customer service skills. He sees me standing there for 20 minutes without saying anything or acknowledging my order until I finally ask him if he is going to put together the order. The guy says that he is the only one working there which I took as he is not able to help me.

I had ordered some food while I was there to bring back to my family. In hind sight it was not the greatest idea as I knew I would I have to wait for the catering order to be prepared but I was not expecting for them to take as long as they did. I eventually just asked for a manager to refund my order. This was a different manager that was just unhelpful. Instead of solving the problem, he kept reiterating that I arrived earlier than the scheduled time which I made very clear that I am aware of. I told him I been standing like a dumbass with a bag of food that is getting cold because there is no communication on their end. If they would have simply said, we can not prepare the catering order until the scheduled time I would have been fine. I would have been on my way and came back at a later time. Instead they have me thinking the order is going to be put together soon when they had no intention of doing so until the scheduled time.

I canceled the catering order and now ordering...

Placed an online order today at 8:22pm or delivery. A confirmation message was sent saying estimated delivery 8:55pm. At 9:17 no delivery had been received so I called and waa told the order was out for delivery. 9:40pm still nothing so I called again was put on hold and then hung up on. Called backed and asked about the delivery and waa told since I placed the order after 8pm they do not send their drivers out they use door dash instead. This is not stated when you place your order, if it was I wouldn't have ordered. I don't use door dash or grubhub. The person on the phone told me it was not their fault and it was out of their hands. I would have to get try and my $50 bucks back from door dash. This is unacceptable and sad. I then called door dash and they told me since I did not place the actual order through them I had to gey my refund from Portillos. Called Portillos back and they didn't really seem to what to assist. I even said we could do a 3 way call with door dash to find out the driver's info and investigate so I can get my money back. He didn't want to do that, he said he would call door dash his self and find out the next step. So now I'm out of $50 and had to spend more money to feed my 3 kids. It may not seem like a big deal to Portillos or door dash but it was to my family tonight. I normally pick up any orders if we eat out but today my car was in the shop so that's the only reason I picked delivery. I will not be placing any future orders with Portillos, the customer service about this was nonchalant and they made me feel like I did something wrong. You are the one who hired the 3rd party delivery service not me. You should have stated this when the order was placed and I would have declined and ordered a pizza instead, it would have been cheaper. So disappointed because we visit at least once a month this was the 1st time we tried delivery. Lesson learned...
