I'd normally take & share pictures but because I came in pretty hungry at the time, my stomach was bigger than anyone's eyes/lens. Will have to update this review with photos the next time I dine out here...
It was around 6:30pm when my other half and I walked out to dinner. He was determined to take me out for my birthday at a nice restaurant. After a failed attempt to dine out at local, highly rated and fancy pizza place in town (has anyone else driven out to the coast after researched published hours that are posted publicly online, only to find upon arrival a dinky printed flyer taped to their window/door posted to the public that they are closed for the day?), followed by a failed plan B (30 - 40 minute wait time at Kyllo's was not going to work, not this time esp. since it was about 7pm by the time we got there and we were getting hangry) that Fathom's was our Hail Mary option for having a sit down dinner. On a Wednesday night, mind you. On the coast. At Lincoln City.
After a google search, we saw Fathom's. I decided to call ahead while my other half and I were en route, and according to the host it wasn't too busy. We went ahead and put our names down for 7:30pm and arrived well within time (after walking to H&T, then to Kyllo's, we hopped into the car & drove out). The restaurant is located inside of the hotel, Inn at the Spanish Head. You can take the elevator or walk one flight of stairs to get to the restaurant.
We saw our host, who was interrupted by hotel guests that wanted to purchase tourist paraphernalia. It was almost comical to us, on our third attempt in the same evening to sit down and have dinner and we were slowed down by a family that wanted to try on and maybe purchase hats. Another staff member Jacob came out to help get us seated. He sat us in a big corner booth with a nice ocean view. No one had control over the outside scaffolding that was in the view. We could still see the vast ocean and sky and that was a mini reset button for us. And Jacob was prompt with getting us water & kept them refilled, all with a kind smile. Thank you, Jacob for turning our evening into a better one!
I also send a shout-out to our charming server Alex, who was stellar at his timing. We each ordered a glass of wine & steamed clams as our starter. I ordered the hazelnut encrusted chicken with mashed potatoes, and the other half ordered the stuffed wild coho also with masher, plus a dinner salad. Even though we had plenty of table space, Alex's magical touch on timing made sure that we had finished our steamer clams (even with requested additional bread) before he brought out a reasonably sized dinner salad (this comes out small but is perfect as a side dish; the other salads are like entree sized salads). And after we polished off the salad, our entrees arrived right afterward. I ordered another glass of wine. Even though I was madly hungry and got pretty full, we decided to get a marionberry cobbler. That did not disappoint, whatsoever. The bill came out to $119 for three glasses of wine, steamer clam appetizer, small house salad, two entrees, and a dessert. It was well worth the splurge and I was happy to have been so well fed.
We're looking forward to our next visit, hopefully in...
Read moreMy wife and I went here for dinner. Unfortunately, we did not make reservations or realize that reservations were available. We had already looked over the menu online, and she was excited for the chicken piccata, and I was excited for the prime rib. On a whim, we decided to ask at the bar if they severed food there as well. Boy howdy were we in for a treat when we found out that they did indeed serve the same menu at the bar. We bellied up and ordered our food and some drinks. I stepped outside for a cigarette while our food was being prepared and discovered a very warm and loving elderly cat that apparently has taken up residence at the hotel. I called my wife because she just HAD to come and give this cat some love. We spent a bit of time with that cat and perhaps too much because our food was delivered while we were busy with said cat.
When we arrived back for our food, we didn't hesitate a moment to dig in. Our first bite we paused and looked at each other with wide eyes. The. Food. Was. Amazing. Like, probably one of the best meals we have had in our lives kind of amazing. My wife needs to eat her food slowly for health reasons and I find myself having to remind her of this from time to time when she gets a meal she is eager and excited for. Unfortunately, I was engrossed in my meal and didn't even look up to see how rapidly she was devouring hers until she was nearly done. Thankfully, the portion sizes were perfect because this caused no issues for her, and yet, we both still left with full bellies. I'm not kidding when I say all of the food was perfect. I mean, even my baked potato was the best I've ever had in my life. This will absolutely and completely be a part of every road trip we take when we are within 100 miles of this place.
I haven't even mentioned the service yet, and that's a shame on me. Our server/bartender was not just some stiff and stuffy gentleman who was there to answer out every need. This was (by his actions and treatment) a friend and family member that we just didn't know yet. Josh gave us some of the best service we have ever experienced and it not only included prompt and heartfelt attention at any moment we may have needed it but, as well fun, laugher and even a dash of whimsy. By the end of the meal and of our visit, he 100% felt like a family member. Heck, he would be welcomed in our home for Christmas. And it wasn't just him. The entire staff puts forth every genuine effort to care for their guests and anticipate their needs. While we did not stay in the hotel for this portion of our trip of visit, we absolutely and 100% will be making it a priority to for this to be a mainstay in any trips we take heading south out of the seattle area. It's been ~14 hours since our dinner and visit, and we are still in awe at how perfectly every bit of that was executed. Kudos to the entire staff, thank you for making a dinner one of the highlights of our motorcycle road trip, and we can't wait to come back and see...
Read moreI am writing to let you know about an experience my family had at Fathom's Restaurant last week. My husband and our three adult children, along with my parents, my siblings and their spouses and children spent the week in Lincoln City last week celebrating my parents' 50th wedding anniversary. About two weeks before our trip I called around to restaurants in Lincoln City to find one that we could make a reservation for all 15 of us for a "fancy" dinner. I struck out at most places but then happened upon Fathom's. When I called, the woman who answered was very friendly and nice. She said it was no problem to make a reservation for the 15 of us for 6pm on Tuesday, June 28th. Fast forward to that night when we all show up at Fathom's. My older brother was the first one inside and was told immediately that the reservation was only for two people. Shortly after this I arrived and was told the same thing. I asked what phone number they had down for it, thinking that maybe there was a miscommunication about which reservation we were discussing. I was told rather rudely that they already verified the telephone number and indeed it is only for two people. Then two other workers came over and started discussing it with me. I said that when I called I had repeatedly verified that it was for 15 people. I was asked who I spoke to and when I answered that I didn't take down her name because I thought everything was set, I was told that they never do parties that large. In addition I was told that if someone had requested a group that large then the manager, who was one of the ladies talking with me, would have called me back. The manager then asked rudely if she had called me. To this I answered no but that I didn't know that was an issue because this was going to be our first time eating at Fathom's. Luckily, my brother was able to get a hold of Chinook Casino's Restaurant. They normally wouldn't have taken a group our size last minute but the woman who answered the phone said she could tell it was for something special so they made it work. We had amazing food and service there and will definitely return to that restaurant. I understand that there can be miscommunication or mistakes. However, I felt like I was being argued with and berated by these employees, especially the manager. This was extremely disappointing because I have heard nothing but good things about both Fathom's and the Inn at Spanish Head. My husband and I were actually hoping to make reservations to stay there sometime this fall or winter. After this experience, everyone in our group has stated that they have no desire to ever go to Fathom's or the Inn at Spanish Head. I sent this to the Inn at Spanish Head a month ago and have...
