Tried to order large donut for 40th birthday. Only happens once and havnt celebrated one in years. Gave over 24 hour notice. Only thing i wanted to do to rememer the day. Im a huge donut lover and frequent this place. I bake cakes for people all year long, this is what I wanted as mine. Who bakes for the baker? Im not just giving the one star because of this experience but they are not open late anymore. It used to be great to stop by after work at 1am now i cant. At least change your hours of operation. Also some of the last few times the donuts seem older more stale or over cooked. When I do make it early enough to get donuts they are always out of most stuff. I was so excited about having a fresh personal donut finally. They did say Saturday but my birthday isnt Saturday. I understand they had a big order but it would have taken 1 rack to proof on and maybe 10 mins of fry time since a normal donut frys in 3 mins. If it's an inconvenience to make don't offer it. Don't say give 24 hour notice if you can't do it. If you need 72 hours then say that. I hope this place gets right. The vibe used to be great. Now it's not open, not stocked, not fresh, and now unwelcoming. You hurt this fat guys feelings I will not be back any time soon. Will be getting my birthday donuts from LaMars or Randy's. I hope this review gets read by someone who can fix some of...
Read moreGood doughnuts, poor/rude customer service once. Wife and I have visited Hurts Donuts several times and it's usually a good experience. The donuts are unique and interesting, not to mention many are delicious, and location has a lot of unique personality and charm. However, when we recently went in on a Saturday morning, there was some confusion as to what toppings were on a doughnut which caused a little breakdown in communication. This resulted in the employee taking our order to visibly roll her eyes at my wife and exhibit a loud and obviously annoyed sigh. Granted, we understood that we caused some confusion and unintended frustrations with asking for a doughnut with the wrong toppings (thought a doughnut had coco puffs on it, but it was peanut butter cups), but felt we were being polite and respectful and not meaning to cause any issues; and it was during a time where there weren't any other customers waiting in line so was not buys as we could tell. While I'm glad to say this isn't the normal experience/reception, it's unfortunate as this was the first time we had brought our daughter here and were enjoying introducing her to the large and colorful selection Hurts Donuts has. Even though the doughnut we did get was sweet, the service received left us with a bitter taste...
Read moreI was in Lincoln on business and my partner travelled with me. We were looking for a late night snack and found this place up the street from our hotel. It is in the lower floor of the old courthouse and nit doesn’t jump out at you. They have a a wide selection of interesting flavors but as soon as I saw the Maple Bacon donut I knew what I was having and it was so worth it. It is, hands-down, the best Maple Bacon yet, including Voodoo Donuts. They don’t just put a chewy slice of bacon across the top, they layer a pile of crunchy bacon bits across the top of a perfect maple icing. Yum!!! We have been back every night for one and tonight I told my other half to get his own as I’m not sharing mine any more just so he can try a different flavor and no, you can’t have “just one bite.”
Full disclosure, we also tried the Streusel (both the plain and the Cherry Struesel) and it was delicious, I mean, who doesn’t love a streusel? I had a chocolate frosted with sprinkles which was good enough but nothing to write home about, and the red velvet which was also a nice treat.
Definitely worth trying if you like experimenting with cool new flavors (and fun names) give them a try. But, the Maple Bacon… it’s...
