The Lincoln Marriott Cornhusker Hotel had a pumpkin contest with 10 different departments competing. Which one is your favorite?

Two stars given. One because my car wasn’t broken into while parked in the properties garage. Second star because the shower water was hot. Appreciate that. Unfortunately, this has been my worst Marriott stay in calendar year 2022. I’ve frequented this property probably 2 dozen times over the last 5 years. It’s an older full-service, I get that. But it’s one thing having dated aesthetics, and it’s an entirely different thing being downright filthy and apathetic. I’ll let a few of these photos speak for them selves. For my future travels into Lincoln, I’ll be staying at the Scarlet property, or even staying outside the Marriott network at the Graduate. Last thing of note, which really put the gravy on top of the lumpy-mashed-potato mess that this property has now become. When valet is available, I valet. I also tip well ($20 per leg). I called down to the front desk 20 minutes before my departure this morning. I get down there and my car wasn’t pulled up, and the valet said that no one had communicated to him. I tipped him regardless, but the raw and unapologetic lazy approach to running this property is showing.

We only stayed over one night. However compared to another hotel, perhaps less "fancy" we could have paid the same or less and got more amenities. Here were the problems. 1. no fan in bathroom. Perhaps it is just me, but I like fans in my bathroom. 2. the pool was shallow and had according to my travel companion, was full of hair. 3. We had to pay $20 to have our car parked. 4. No microwave in the room, this one was really weird and we conjectured that it was to keep people from bringing in their own food. The building itself is starting to get a bit old, but it was generally comfy and while I wouldn't stay there again, it isn't a bad place... just sort of meh...

We have stayed at this hotel a few times now and each stay is a little worse. The first couple times was during their renovation so it was just a bit inconvenient to get to things but not the end of the world, staff was decently pleasant those stays. This last stay we stayed and it was finished. I made a reservation with the request of a king bed. First two double beds or a king should not be an option together. Someone wanting a king bed almost will never want a double bed. The request was not met and my husband and I would like to sleep in the same bed and a double is not long enough for him. Then we could hear our neighbors next to us the entire time with their talking, laughing and loud sounds both nights. We called customer service and they said they would take care of it. It was still an issue that night and the next so we did not sleep well. The front desk gentlemen that checked us in was extremely unfriendly. Then I left behind a personal belonging. I called that afternoon around 3-4 and they told me they would check on the item. Never heard back so I called again about 7-8. I was told they did not have the ability to look for the item and that no one was there to check and nothing was noted about finding it and I could leave that department a voicemail. Then I called Monday around 4 or 5 after not receiving a call that day and no one was in that department that could help that day so I was told I could leave another voicemail because they guessed no one came in that day and they had no way to get in to lost and found to look for the item. Then I called back that Tuesday during the day and they told me they still did not know if the item was there and wanted to transfer me to that department. No one picked up so I told them I wanted to speak to the manager of that department or the general manager and then they told me they would go check on the item. Low and behold they found the item themselves (after being told they could not do that the other times I called) and my husband was able to pick it up cause he was in town again that week. I have worked for Marriott for over 3 years before and know how good hotels operate. This would not be a good operating hotel. Very disappointing in this hotel and that it calls itself a Marriott. I am still a loyal Marriott guest but will never stay with this...

The Cornhusker is a stately hotel in need of refurbishment. I used points to reserve a club-level room, but I asked for a lower-level floor just because I'm not keen of heights. Check-in was pretty simple, although perfunctory--not super friendly "hello, glad to have you here," but more of "hello (no smile or pause) what's your name?" The room I received looked ok at first glance, but then I notice that the desk chair's seating pad's top layer is worn through to the backing on about 50% of the surface and the "leather" is rubbing off on my clothes. Ugh. Moreover, most of the furniture is nicked, scratched, and worn. Another issue is that my bathroom door was positioned such that you cannot open it far enough to sit on the toilet correctly; your legs have to stay at an angle! It's like being in a tiny jet's lavatory. Because I was headed to another Marriott later in the week, I replied to a welcome email from the Cornhusker Marriott night auditor to ask about food options at my next hotel. I never got a reply (I wrote twice!) and when I asked for similar help from the front desk staff, I was told that because the Cornhusker Marriott isn't really owned by Marriott, they don't have a direct relationship with other Marriott hotels. Sensing that it was going to be a Herculean effort for the desk agent to pick up the phone and call my next hotel's food and beverage team, I just agreed to call my next hotel myself and not put the Cornhusker Marriott staff through such a difficult and terribly, terribly onerous task (with my silly, oh so dumb questions). "Thanks for nothing," as my mom would say. The hotel really needs to be renovated. The Best Western that I stayed in the next night in rural Kansas was superior in every way to the Cornhusker Marriott. It's a shame, because the Cornhusker Marriott is in a great location and could be a grand hotel. The management gave me a refund on my $8 club-level cocktail charge (thanks for the drink, folks!) and I got 3K points refunded from my charges for the room for the inconvenience of the messy desk chair, negative impressions of my room's worn furniture and complaints about the mis-aligned bathroom door that requires semi-acrobatic talent to overcome. All told, I wish I'd selected another hotel and I would likely not have had to write this...

I booked The Cornhusker for a surprise trip to Lincoln for my boyfriend's birthday, as he is a huge Husker fan. I looked at all of the pictures and reviews on the hotel before booking, it looked like a nice romantic weekend getaway for us. However, upon checking it it was a nightmare. They failed to tell us or post on their website that they would NOT have parking available for their guest as they were using their garage as parking for people for the game. So we could either pay $25 each time to enter and exit the garage or pay a $30 valet fee per day (instead of what they advertised $16 self parking per day). Obviously it wasn't feasible to pay $25 each time you wanted to leave so I paid $60 for Valet for two days..then I requested a king single room. Upon checking in we were not told our preference was switched, instead when we got to our room we found two full sized beds. I politely called to the front desk and they said they were sold out of single beds and when I booked that was only a "preference" if I wanted a king room they told me there was a $25 fee to guarantee I would get it. I thought that paying $500 for a HOTEL ROOM, my preference would be pretty doable considering I booked in August for our November trip. So after being told that we had to have a double room and they couldn't accommodate us we stepped into the bathroom to find we had a roll in wheelchair shower with no sink counter and the bathroom smelled like feces. I hate complaining but was irate at this point so I requested a room with a regular shower since my significant other and I wouldn't even be able to sleep in the same bed I figured that we could at least have that. Luckily they accommodated us with this, after all was said and done we just got a free meal voucher. Very disappointing to say the least and poorly handled. Would not ever stay here again or even recommend it not...
